The 90-year-old royal was forced to miss a service at St. Mary Magdalene church in Sandringham on Sunday (01.01.17) as well as the traditional Christmas morning service in Norfolk due to illness, and it has been reported the monarch has been using a variety of remedies to help her get better.

According to the Mail Online, the Queen's corgi, who is believed to be injured, has received the Queen's assistance and is being nursed back to care, whilst Prince Philip - who was also struck with cold and flu symptoms over the weekend - has reportedly steered clear of the Queen's home remedies in favour of more traditional medicines.

Although the Queen is feeling "better", she is still recovering from her illness and Princess Anne has assured well-wishers that her mother is recovering.

The Queen's absence at the event may have had alarm bells ringing for some people - as it was the first time in 30 years she was unable to attend the ceremony - but Buckingham Palace has admitted missing the church service was a "precautionary measure" and it was nothing to be overly worried about.

They said at the time: "[It was] a precautionary measure but there was no sense of undue concern".

The news the royal couple had been attacked by the virus was first addressed two weeks ago and a few days before Christmas Day.

Speaking previously about their welfare, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have heavy colds, and so have decided not to travel to Sandringham today."
