Sweden's Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine attended children's rights seminars in New York.

The 70-year-old royal and her daughter visited the Big Apple last week for the Children in the Age of Sustainable Development seminar focussing on child protection, where the Queen gave a heartfelt speech about the work of the World Childhood Foundation and urged leaders not to forget about "today's children".

According to the Swedish Royal family's website, kungahuset.se, she said: "More children than ever before are victims of violence, including sexual violence, conflicts, forced migration, and climate change. We keep talking about preserving the planet for the future generations, forgetting about today's children.

"There are still millions of children who grow up in extreme poverty, in war-torn conditions, in unstable environments, and are subjected to some of the worst forms of human rights violations imaginable."

Following the seminar at the University of Columbia, the Queen and Princess Madeleine, 32, arrived at a festival in Central Park and were treated to a concert organised by the charity Global Citizen.
