Amazon.co.uk Review
What is it about director Richard Donner that Mel Gibson enjoys so much that he's appeared in five of Donner's films? Is it the on-set pranks? Could it be the big-budget perks and $20 million paychecks? Or is it just a well-stocked catering table? Whatever the case, the iLethal Weapon/i star and director teamed up again, along with fellow superstar Julia Roberts, for this typically glossy, entertaining but ultimately hokey thriller. Gibson plays New York cab driver Jerry Fletcher, whose wacky belief in conspiracies finally hits on a coincidental truth involving an evil figure named Jonas (Patrick Stewart) and a secret program of government-funded mind control. Roberts plays the Justice Department attorney who finally believes in Jerry's paranoid ramblings. With a plot (from iLA Confidential/i co-writer Brian Helgeland) that's a lot of fun as long as you don't think about it too critically, iConspiracy Theory/i benefits immeasurably from the charisma of its high-magnitude stars. i--Jeff Shannon/i

5 out of 5 stars An incredible Film, with good actors.   November 19, 2000

The story of a paranoid man trying to persuade others of his strange fears and beleifs is one that most of us have seen before. However this film is different, not only do all the actors play their parts incredibly well, but the paranoid fears of the hero begin to come true!pIt also includes a brilliant performance of Patric Stewart playing the part of the evil matermind (Well known for his Picard in Star-Treck the next generation) This is a fantastic film that in well worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars Just because you?re paranoid...   February 28, 2005

Just because you are paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you.pThe title says it all and you have seen it a million times. You have to figure out who the good guys are and who the bad guys are shades of the "Bourn Identity" appear as Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) must find out not only who they are but who he is? And will Alice Sutton (Julia Roberts) believe him or not or is she the bad guy or a target? pAside from the plot is powerful acting by powerful actors. How do they handle trust?

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.   September 16, 2003

A film that Mel Gibson was actually very good in. pA taxi driver in New York has taken a stalker-like fancy to a lady in the justice department, he is also the author of a small newsletter of conspiracy theories. He visits her on an almost daily basis trying to get his theories investigated, and then he follows her home at night, but why ?pEverywhere there are conspiracies happenening but the average Joe bloggs doesn't notice them, Jerry fletcher (gibson) on the other hand does notice them and then he checks the papers and publishes his thoughts to his select few readers. A madman, nutter, fool, I here you cry. Then his readers begin to die and as his list of readers gets shorter Jerry realises he's hit a nerve and that he has been right about something....but what. As Jerry goes on the run secerts and hidden mysteries are revelaed, and the world turns upside down.pA brilliant film, very entertaining, I like it soooo much I'd like to give it 7*'s instead of 5. Buy this one, you wont regret it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Conspiracy   April 22, 2004

After watching this film, one question popped up in my mind. Why would a directer cast Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts together? Well, that's simple...chemistry! The two leads are perfect for the rolls as taxi driver/psycho and police detective. They appear to bounce off each other creating natural comedy and somewhat moving moments within the film at rather unexpected moments. brGibson gives a very lethal weapon-esque appearence, with slightly edgier qualities while Roberts continues to astonish us with her graceful movie presence. Her character's sadness and anger are portrayed beautifully, yet Roberts still creates a strong feminist character who many people can appreciate and admire.brOn the whole, this film looks upon the bleak oppressiveness of the American government and their conspiracies. However, do not let that put you off as the two leads carry you through it without you ever getting bored. After this film, you won't believe anything the governments says anymore!

5 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertaining   September 20, 2009
G. J. R. Morris (Derbyshire UK)
This was a great film for me and for those of us who are willing to suspend reality a bit or perhaps a lot it neverthless delivers the thrills. br /An engeniuos escape from being interogated in a wheelchair to a interwoven love story at the same time. br /Although the unbelievable you take with a pinch of salt, like being saved by a person stepping between you and a high powered assault rifle with a bullet traveling at 700 miles an hour and a victim comming round from being knocked unconscious twice who muses "why does everyone say sorry?" "how would he know if he was unconscious !". br /In all though I was Thoroughly entertained!.
