Amazon.co.uk Review With a story that's too flimsy to support its running time, this road-mo vie comedy has plenty of problems, but at its best it's a surprisingly inspired vehicle for the clever teaming of Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence. Robbins plays an addled advertising executive who comes home early one day and discovers his wife in bed with his boss. To make matters worse, he's later carjacked by a struggling, unemployed family-man-turned-petty-thief (Lawrence), and that's when he loses his cool completely. He takes the carjacker hostage and recruits him on a road-trip scheme of revenge against his wife and boss. Plotting to break into his boss' high-security vault, Robbins gets a criminal assist from Lawrence, but they're also on the run from another pair of would-be thieves who trail them to the vault's location. The routine plot of INothing To Lose/I is occasionally limp and sluggish, but writer-director Steve Oedekerk (who makes a wacky cameo appearance as a security guard) mines comedy gold during several scenes that detour from the plot for the sake of sheer lunacy. Robbins and Lawrence have great comedic chemistry (if you can tolerate Lawrence's constant profanity), and although the movie ends on a false note with some unlikely turns of fate, it's definitely good for more than a few solid laughs. --IJeff Shannon, Amazon.com/I

This Is The Funniest Film I have Ever Seen March 10, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This film has it all love hate betrayal robbery fighting and most important of all pure comedy!!! I have bought this film on DVD and watched it so many times i have lost count. If you enjoy side-splitters and rib busting comedy this is your film...martin and Tim what an unbelieveable pair! With Nick Beam and T on your screens you are guarenteed to laugh yourselves silly. I gave this film 5 stars a truely wonderful performance by 2 of the greatest comedy actors of all time!
If it had been any funnier my head may have fallen off ! ! ! July 31, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What would you do if you went home and caught your wife in bed with another man...kill them I hear you say but thats probably what NICK BEAM thought but if he had've done this we would not have had the pleasure of splitting our sides to this movie. When Lawrence '...Picks the wrong guy on the wrong day...' he finds himself wrapped up in a plot that will see him get get shot at chased and end up seeing the 'dick' cut off a statue! I really enjoyed the film because it wasn't what you'd expect to happen everyday and where the hell do you get a torch with a radio in it? If you haven't seen the film you've got 'Nothing To Lose' get the hell out there and buy it.
Always makes me feel better September 11, 2009 CW4444 (London) This one is a "I've had a rubbish day I'm gonna eat a worm" staple for me. Yes, it's funny, and yes, in an obvious, non-intellectual, loud and very American sort of way. But then, that is what I need sometimes and if you do not laugh your head off at the Tim Robbins Skat-Man dance routine you are a sad and miserable peson and nothing will make you laugh.
Funny, damn funny. March 7, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Tim robbins is a serious actor but in this he lets his hair down starring along side Martin Lawrence. Tim finds his wife having an affair with his boss and decides to leave home in a saddened state. On the way Martin tries to rob him and gets caught with a desperate man who has 'Nothing to Lose'. So begins a friendship between the two characters (after the intial mishaps) and they plan to rob his boss. There is an interesting twist at the end (all comes out in the wash scenario), with lots of comedy sketches in between. Overall the mix between comedy and story is well balanced, will keep you laughing until the very last scene.
Nothing To Lose July 15, 2005 Rich Milligan (Thatcham, Berkshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Nothing to Loose" is another addition to the run of odd-couple/buddy buddy comedy movies of which there are so many examples, yet for all that it does work surprisingly well and comes over as a most entertaining and watchable film.pPerhaps it's the fact that the two lead actors aren't the sort you'd expect to find in such a film. Tim Robbins is better known for his more serious roles in such films as "The Shawshank Redemption" or "Arlington Road" and yet here he plays Nick Beam, a faceless advertising executive who is spurred into unexpected action when he discovers his wife having an affair with his boss. Playing opposite Robbins is Martin Lawrence, who no doubt spends his entire acting career being mistaken for Will Smith, Wesley Snipes or Denzil Washington. In fact if the film had have starred such a high profile star then it may well have been more of a disappointment but with the lesser known Lawrence and the strange sight of seeing Robbins in such a situation actually works for the films advantage.pIt's not a laugh riot, but it definitely does have its fair share of funny moments. The discussion on whose "hold up" tactics are the scariest, the on-fire feet dance and the disco dancing security guard are all classic moments and will raise a chortle. Also I felt the sweet sentimental scenes of Lawrence and his family worked well into the comedy moments and were a welcome addition to the film.pThe film also benefits from some good support from great character actors like John C McGinley and Giancarlo Esposito as the two real baddies who are chasing our loveable odd-couple and Irma P Hall as Lawrence's mother.pThe film does suffer from playing the stereotypical card a little too much though. Lawrence is a black man, well qualified yet can't get a job in the white man's world so he turns to a life of crime........mmmmmmm. But probably shouldn't be too harshly criticised as at the end of the day it's meant to be a light comedy.pFor any fans of this type of film, they'd do well to check out this film as they may find it compares much better than some of the better-known examples.
