Amazon.co.uk Review Actor Griffin Dunne improves a bit on his first film as a director, IAddicted to Love/I, with this drama-comedy about a family of witches. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play spell-casting sisters of different temperaments: the former is a high-living, free-spirited sort, while Bullock's character is a homebody who can't get around a family curse that kills the men in their lives. A widowed single mom, Bullock gets into a jam with an abusive Bulgarian (Goran Visnjic) and is helped out by her sibling, but the result brings a good-looking, warm, inquisitive cop (Aidan Quinn) into their lives. The film has a variety of tonal changes--cute, scary, glum--that Dunne can't always effectively juggle. But the female-centric, celebratory nature of the film (the fantasies, the sharing, the witchy bonds) is infectious, and supporting roles by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Kidman and Bullock's magical aunts are a lot of fun. --ITom Keogh

You put the lime in the coconut..... May 27, 2006 CC (England) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
....And drink it all up. And that's exactly what i did with this movie.
br /Me, my mum, my sister and my best friend all love this film.
br /I haven't read the book and didn't even know that there was one, but i plan on buying and reading it. It wont matter if it's different from the film because i love this film ayway.
br /Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman shine on screen and make for good acting partners, which i found surprising.
br /Goran Visjnic (i think that's how you spell it), was excellent as the creepy boyfriend and Stockard Channing and Dianne Weist were perfect as the slightly eccentric aunts.
br /The story revolves mainly around two sisters who live in a small town with their aunts.
br /There is a curse upon the female's in the family that if any man falls in love with them he will die. And unfortunately that's what happens to Sally's husband early on in the film.
br /After moving back in with her aunts Sally's sister, Gillian, gets herself into trouble with her scary Bulgarian boyfriend and calls on her beloved sister for help.
br /The ensuing mishaps and blunders make for good viewing and are just a little scary but a lot of fun.
br /The girls find themselves trying to cover their tracks with little or no success and in the end the witch's have to put their faith and trust in the women of the town who, for many years have feared and wondered about them, in order to save Gillian's life.
br /Magic, mayhem and just a little murder are all thrown into the cauldron to make this an enjoyable warm fuzzy movie.
br /Well worth the money. Highly recommend it.
magical! June 23, 2004 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I don't know about anyone else but whenever i watch this movie i get a warm happy feeling in the pit of my stomach. The only way to describe this movie is 'perfect'. The film basically revolves around two sisters who are the most recent of a long line of witches who just want to live normal lives. This is made difficult for them by the townsfolk who believe them to be evil. Watch it!!!
Truely a must see. October 1, 2002 Aoife (RAMSGATE, KENT United Kingdom) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
So, I saw a trailer and thought 'Nah... not my kind of thing at all'. Then I noticed Goran Visnjic was in it (as Jimmy Angelor), and being a bit of a Goran fan decided it was worth it, just for him.pI loved it.pPractical Magic was funny, touching, and creepy. pNicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock were amazing. (as, of course, was Goran Visnjic).pI really recomend it to anyone, as it has a little bit of everything in it.pAbsolutly superb!

This is one of my all time favourites. Really good for girls who wish that they had magical powers and respect the sisterhood! There are some real 'I love you guys' moments in this especially when despite the odds the sisters go through hoops to protect each other. pAs with all American films - this one also has a happy ending! Great feel good film with some hairy bits in it too!
