Amazon.co.uk Review Ricky Martin's bravura, swivel-hipped performance of "The Cup of Life" at the 41st annual Grammy Awards handily stole the spotlight from the evening's platinum-edged superstars, and positioned him as poster boy for a Latin-pop crossover boom that dominated media for months to follow. Like most "overnight" sensations (or, for that matter, "brand new" pop trends), Martin's impact was actually the payoff for an extended apprenticeship: anything but a novice, this Puerto Rican native was already a major star in the Spanish-speaking pop realm, having graduated from his early stint as a plump-cheeked member of Menudo to become a sleek heartthrob.pWith his chiselled features, flashing smile and sinuous physical presence, Martin can't be blamed for playing to his female fans, and these video clips do just that. The sequence for Martin's breakout English hit, "Livin' La Vida Loca" (also included in a Spanish version) offers a template of sorts: footage of Martin performing the song in a night-club setting is interspersed with location shots of the singer and the siren he's singing about, stitched together with rapid cuts and swirling camera movement that echo the percolating rhythms. Elsewhere, on "She's All I Ever Had", Martin downshifts to the role of earnest balladeer. The objects of his affection are typically drop-dead gorgeous (and, in one instance, teasingly undraped), and the undercurrent of sex approximates the sort of glossy perfection you would expect from lingerie or perfume ads.pThe cover-boy route is probably inevitable for Martin, but his vitality is hard to dismiss, especially during the final song--the same live Grammy performance that put him on global pop radar. That joyous appearance confirms that Martin doesn't need supermodel co-stars or retakes to heat things up. --ISam Sutherland/I

This video is as the title suggests, Ricky Martin's videos. Sadly, as it was released in 1999 it contains videos from only the 'Ricky Martin' and 'Vuelve' album.brThe vidoes are as follows:p1) Livin' La Vida Loca - A very upbeat song with a definate latin/spanish feel to it. 10/10p2) She's All I ever Had - A Ballard from the heart. The Vidoe seems to be a little slow moving. 6/10p3) La Bomba - This is an all spanish song taken from the Vuelve album. It's very latino with the beat of african drums in the background. 8/10p4) Perdido Sin Ti - Another all spanish ballard showing alot of feeling and emotion. 5/10p5) Livin' La Vida Loca - The Sma as above but in spanish. The Video is exactly the same. 9/10p6) Vuelve - Yet another ballerd which can get a bit boring, but if you like the song, then you would deffinately like the video also. 6/10p7) Maria - Possibly the best song on the video. This teriffically upbeat song i staken from the A Medio Vivir album, and unlike the song from the 'Ricky Martin' album, it is all in spanish. 10/10p8) Bella - Exactly the same as She's All I Ever Had but all in spanish. 5/10p9) The Cup Of Life - This song is not actually the video, but a live Grammy performance. Lots of drums, dancing and trumpets. 10/10pAn overall score of 69/90, which is by no means bad. Unless you were desperate for this video, I would concider waiting for a while. This is merely because it doesn't contain any of his newer songs from his 'Sound Loaded' album, and he may possibly bring out a video with all his videos. Apart from that, it is very good and I recomend it.
Ricky Martin - The Videos October 4, 2003 P. Foxton 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this DVD rather cheaply and as a Ricky Martin fan was quite impressed. However the although the videos are great (and as you would see on The Box) there were some things I think they could have improved. For example why is Livin La Vida Loca on twice? I know the second version is in Spanish but isnt that what the multiple audio tracks are for on DVD? And they could have replaced it with the Private Emotion video which was what I was expecting anyway. brOther than that the video is basically a collection of music videos and an exclusive interview with Ricky himself... and some great dancing as well!
