Amazon.co.uk Review
Okay, you knew everyone in high school was just a little different: everyone looked at you strangely, the teachers were freaky, and you never could find the right groove to fit into. What if it turned out that it was all because your school was inhabited by creepy aliens from outer space? That's the enjoyably cheesy B-premise for this fun and scary flick from the pen of IScream/I's Kevin Williamson, the master of the post-modern teen horror film. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (IEl Mariachi/I), it's IThe Breakfast Club/I meets IInvasion of the Body Snatchers/I, as six disparate students from Herrington High School band together when they discover that an alien life form is invading both the student and faculty bodies, with plans to take over the world.p Each of the heroes represents a different high school type: popular babe (Jordana Brewster), picked-on geek (Elijah Wood), goth girl (Clea DuVall), sensitive jock (Shawn Hatosy), new kid in town (Laura Harris), and bad-boy rebel (Josh Hartnett). The plot isn't much--a basic kill-or-be-killed premise spiked with a healthy shot of paranoia--but Willliamson and Rodriguez do a great job of building the tension slowly but surely. The suspense set pieces are genuinely frightening, and the film pokes fun at itself without deflating its scares; Williamson is a master at shifting gears from comedy to horror quickly and adroitly. The young cast doesn't have a weak link among them (with special kudos to Wood, DuVall and heartthrob-in-the-making Hartnett), and Rodriguez gets maximum mileage from the titular faculty, which includes Jon Stewart, Piper Laurie, Salma Hayek, Bebe Neuwirth, and Robert Patrick of ITerminator 2/I. Go to the head of the class, Mr. Williamson. I--Mark Englehart/I

5 out of 5 stars A must-see!   January 30, 2002

This film, although, I'll admit, the storyline has been done in different formats many a time, has all the ingredients for a major Hollywood blockbuster. Outstanding performances from Eljah Wood(the timid high-school misfit), Clea DuVall(goth) and Josh Harnett(bad boy rebel). The script was grippingly written, filled with suspense, action, wisecracks and a suprising twist to the end. Good, solid entertainment!

This creepy but strangely funny film stars Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett and Jordana Brewster as teenagers who realise that their high school is being taken over by tentacled aliens using the bodies of the staff or-The Faculty. brFrom the beggining sequence you think this is going to be a running round dark coridoors stabbing people film but it develops into a suspense filled thriller with some terrifying and some hillarious scenes leading towards a dramatic climax and subsicountly satifying ending. The cast are all brilliant Robert Patrick especially making a great performance as the increddibly freaky gym teacher. well worth seing!

I began watching this film on DVD thinking that it was going to be boring and scary. To tell you the truth I only watched it because Elijah Wood was in it of who I am I great fan and he didn't dissapoint!pI would recomend that you watch it on DVD with the subtitles up because some of the funniest lines are barly audible!brNot scary at all, maybe a bit disgusting at parts but soooooo funny, especially Casey (Wood) watch out for the bit in Zekes house its hilerious.

5 out of 5 stars If you love Elijah Wood, you'll love this!!!!   February 20, 2002

What else can i say? Ths film brings out the best in all the actors/ actresses and even if you're squeamish this shouldn't bother you. If you like seeing the real side of teachers and big bugs, you'll be right at home. If not, the cast are there to make your day, with fit people like Elijah Wood and Usher!!!!! Josh Hartnett also makes it a gr8 movie for everyone!!! P.S if you are a teacher's pet, this is not for you!!! This is school as we know it and teachers refuse to know it.
