| Customer Reviews: Dilbert hits the small screen. May 4, 2004 Dr. S. Ward 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of Dilbert since 1990, and although the Dilbert cartoon series has been shown on Sky, I don't have a satellite system so have had to wait a while to find out how well the TV adaptation was done.pThe answer is 'very well'.pFans of the Dilbert comic strip will find nearly all the regulars here: Dilbert and Dogbert, of course, Alice, Wally, the Boss and the occasional appearance from Ratbert and Asok the intern (fans of Catbert will be disappointed, as he doesn't appear). We are also introduced to Loud Howard, who was only a bit-part character in the strip.pIt's obvious that Scott Adams had a great deal of input into the animation, since the characters have the same looks and 'mannerisms' as their comic-strip counterparts. The animation is computer-generated and of very good quality - the style will be familiar to fans of 'Futurama' (side note: Billy West, the voice of Fry in Futurama, provides some of the voices, and Tress McNielle from 'The Simpsons' also lends her vocal talents)pThe DVD contains four episodes from what I think are the first series and are just as surreal as some of the comic strips and if, like me, you actually *are* an engineer, you'll find yourself relating to a lot of the things you'll see. Best of all, it's genuinely 'laugh out loud' funny in parts (eg. the voice-activated shower scene in the first episode)pDVD extras are lacking, but since I view a lot of 'extras' as useless padding I don't find this to be an issue. Basically, you get a 'character gallery' which shows a sequence of each character's best bits - pretty pointless, even by my lax standards.pEven so, you get 84 minutes of Dilbert and a fair few belly laughs to boot. If you like the comic strip, you'll like this. Now, can we have series 2 on DVD ... please?

Ok, Dilbert may not be to most people's tastes but if you are in tune with the humour in the workplace and can spot even the most subtle of jokes, Dilbert is the cartoon for you. Thise who have read the cartoon strip in the Express will know the Dilbert is hilarious and Scott Adams is a genius when it comes to observing the amusing parts of life. I have the whole set, and even though I prefer the comic books of Dilbert, I still watch the Dilbert animated series time and time again!
Excellent - sharp and witty true to the comic strip. April 17, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The four episodes are very funny and link together. The lack of any extras takes a star off the review.

Always hard to animate a cartoon strip successfullly, but... January 10, 2005 Big Ben (Bedford, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
...Dilbert works for me. The voices took a couple of episodes to get used to (they didn't quite match the ones in my head from reading the cartoons) but now they fit well in my view. Good effort, with good results. brDilbert is his usual self, and the usual cast do their thing, pretty much as in real life grin. My real life Bad Boss did not have pointy hair, but everything else fits perfectly!
