Amazon.co.uk Review
Just what the world needs, another riff on that post-iPsycho/i horror cliché: the slasher movie. In this version, which considerably dumbs down the Lois Duncan book, the bad guy chases naughty teenagers with a hook, all the while dressed as a dark version of the Gorton's fisherman. They seem to have killed someone in a car accident while out partying, and a price must be paid. Nothing new is added to the genre by II Know What You Did Last Summer/i, though it would be unfair not to note that this does have some scary moments. That is about all it has, because as much as this wanted to be another iScream/i, it hasn't the heart or the script. It does, however, have the requisite cast of small-screen stars (including iParty of Five/i's Jennifer Love Hewitt and Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar) to have snagged box-office success, spawning a sequel. i--Rochelle O'Gorman/i

5 out of 5 stars I still know.....a good film when I see one!   July 26, 2005

I have decided to review this now as it's one of my favourite films and have just watched it for about the 6th time by now. Yes when it came out many compared it to Scream another modern horror classic. Both were brought to the big screen by Kevin Williamson ,as was The Faculty. However Scream was as much a update of the gerne as you can get directed by Wes Craven, the horror maste, which has it's tongue in cheek moments making fun of the gerne. In I know what you did last summer there is more of a obvious story from the start for the killers motives.brThis film is pure class, featuring a young and beautiful cast, of course, inc Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Sarah Michelle-Gellar. It has a cool soundtrack "Hush" by Kula shaker and some genuine jumpy moments too. It shows in the film that there must have been a big budget for the film. The films target audience will and have lapped this up and along with Scream it is one of the modern generations fave films. Only down side on DVD is that there are no extras what so ever! Overall a great fun, classy, horror film everyone should enjoy! If you haven't seen this yet, where have you been? Go buy it now!

If you're expecting originality you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting a faithful adaptation of the superb book this is based on you'll be let down. If you just want to sit down to enjoy a entertaining movie, that is well-acted (the supporting cast (Bridgette Wilson in particular) do as good a job as Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe Freddie Prince Jr.) you've come to the right page. br / br / br /Four friends run over a man dump his dead (?) body into the ocean after their drunken 4th July celebrations. One year later almost to the day, one of the friends receives a letter the game is on. As it draws to 4th July the letters escalate to hair cutting, disappearing bodies hit and runs. br / br / br /I must mention that the main `stalk n slash' scene is gripping, edge-of-your-seat stuff. I wouldn't really call I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER a slasher though; it's more of a suspense thriller. The film focuses revenge. br / br /The film relies on tension building suspense instead of blood and gore, like classics such as HALLOWEEN. I'm not saying that I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER is on that level, but it is well done. The film is better then it's chief comparison SCREAM because it seems more realistic. br / br / br / br / br /One observation; I'm quite sure that the film had an 18 certificate in cinemas, while the DVD is certified as a 15. This makes me wonder over missing footage. I don't want to give anything away, but the killer has collected newspaper articles that detail something that seemingly has very little to do with the given plot. Just little things like that are winding me up. It doesn't spoil the plot or anything like that, so it isn't really important I guess. br / br /Also, Anne Hecht has a seemingly pointless supporting role. So where has any left out footage gone? It's not included as an extra. Are they going to bring out 50 DVD editions of this or something? br /

I Know what you did last summer is a really clever slasher film. You might think it's going to be cheesy but its not, it actually quite original and nothing like Scream apart from the fact that people die. The villan who is a fisherman, i thought was not going to be very scary or as creepy as other horror villains, but was suprisingly haunting. The acting wasn't the best but you couldn't really expect much more from the cast of actors. But I do give them credit as they did in some scenes seem genuinely terrified and they do make you want them to stay alive, which is all you really need them to do. The pnly thing rong with the film which doesn't really matter is the fact that it doesn't matter if the victim is sprinting away from the villain and the villain is just strolling he always seems just two steps behind. Overall great film and some jump scenes.

5 out of 5 stars I know . . . that this is a great movie   February 23, 2007

I Know What You Did Last Summer is deffinatly one of the best late ninety's wave of horror and slasher movies. It has it all - suspence, action, gore, cool death scenes, a creepy killer, A-list actors - plus it actually has a good story line. It is easy to see why this was a massive success, spawning two sequels (and hopefully another in the near future??). br / br /Driving back from the beach after a Fourth of July party, four teenage friends, Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Barry (Ryan Phillipe), Helen (Sarah Michelle Geller) and Ray (Freddy Prince Jr) accidently hit a man who is wondering in the middle of the road. Julie freaks out and says they have to go the the cops, but Barry, who was drink driving, tells her that they'd all go to jail for manslaughter. After some argueing, they agree to dump the mans body into the ocean and each of them vow never to tell what they did. br / br /One year later, Julie moves back with her parents for the summer after a year of college. She is not the girl she used to be, she is lonely and guilt ridden. No longer friends with those involved in the accident. But then she recieves a note from someone claiming they know what she did. She meets up with her friends only to find out they received similar threats. Soon the group are flung into a terrifying fight for survival as they are scared and stalked...and eventually killed, one-by-one, by a mysterious killer with a steal hook and a thirst for vengeance as July 4th approaches. br / br /I Know What You Did Last Summer is a brilliant horror/slasher movie with plenty of suspence and gore. Highly recomended.
