Amazon.co.uk Review This is a surprising disappointment, considering it is the third film from director Danny Boyle, writer John Hodge and actor Ewan McGregor. This disjointed and strained romantic comedy is not even near the same league as ITrainspotting/I and IShallow Grave/I. Cameron Diaz is a spoiled heiress and McGregor an aimless janitor brought together by two angels (Holly Hunter and Delroy Lindo) hoping to hang onto their wings. McGregor kidnaps Diaz, the boss's daughter, after being fired from his crummy job. She is not all that averse to being snatched. Most of the laughs are lost to a scattershot story that feels preposterous instead of magical. --IRochelle O'Gorman/I

Extremeley Wonderful! March 10, 2002 jom1@aber.ac.uk (United Kingdom) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
A Life Less Ordinary is a very enjoyable film. It tells the tale of a fed up young man (Ewan McGregor) who after being fired from his job as a cleaner decides to kidnapp the evil boss's rich daughter (Cameran Diaz). You may think this sounds familar, but the twist is that two angels have been sent down to earth to make sure that the pair get together and fall in love. This is an extremeley funny, sweet tale of two very different people becoming very alike. This is a must for all Ewan fans as he is superb in his role and make sure you look out for the kareoke scene (very funny)!!!
Well one thing's for sure: Fate works in mysterious ways! February 11, 2003 L. R. Cross (Reading) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Another thing you should know is that this is not an average boy meets girl romance. It's strange and quirky to say the least; in fact the love aspect of the film is unconvincing and barely plays a part in the story, which is slightly odd as this is the point of the film.pNo, the highlight of the film has to be Ewan Mcgregor who portrays a hapless janitor with such charm that you wonder why he has to be helped to find love.Oh and his good looks, puns, and hilarious acting is enough on its own to make you crazy about this film.pThe story is about Robert (the janitor played by Ewan) and Celine (A rich woman/ psychopath!!!) both are bored of life, dreamers, and how fate intervenes in their lives. Angels, O'Reilly and Jackson to the rescue!! Or perhaps not, as their way of helping the pair to fall in love is just slightly unorthodox to say the least. An odd pair that add to the confusion of the plot, proving just how illogical and unpredictable fate and love can be. pThe film features the gorgeous Ewan yet again revealing his talented voice, unfortunately marred however, by Cameron Diaz's flat notes. Although this film stars Cameron Diaz, yes she wears a swim suit in the first scene, big deal, I did not grow to like her character at all. She spends most of the time with a scowl on her face not allowing us to see the masterpiece of her orthodontist/ex Elliot. However, the film is not harmed in anyway by her presence as I thought it might have previously, being not the biggest fan of her work.pThis film is a must-see for anyone that loves Ewan Mcgregor, so that'll be most fans of Moulin Rouge, Brassed Off etc.. brWARNING!: This is NOT a normal love story, it IS weird, it IS strange, and most importantly it IS funny, amazing, quirky, fast-paced... need I go on?brWatch this film!
In the words of William Thacker 'Sereal but nice' April 15, 2000 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Don't ask me why this is one of my favourite films, it just is! The soundtrack is typically Danny Boyle, brilliant, with fast club beats, soulfull indie and rock from bands like REM and The Cardigans.pThe general storyline is too complicated to sum up with a few sentences, but involves true love, god, angels, a sing along, a weird neighbour, a spoilt rich girl and an evil, over protective father. pI also began to appreciate that Cameron Diaz is not just a pretty face, she can actually act! And Ewan McGregor, what can i say! Great acting, but where the hell did you get that shirt!
GET ME THE DVD SOUNDTRACK NOW! February 7, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My partner will watch anything. She taped this off the TV last weekend and I ended up watching it a few days later 'cos there was nothing on TV.brIt turned out to be the best 2 tv hours I've spent in a long time. It's completely mad and had me laughing out loud as well as craning my ears to hear what appears to be a great soundtrack. Best scene is Holly Hunter's "angel" beating the wotsit out of her partner "angel" for his bad poetry. brAnd Cameron Diaz is pretty spiffy too.brThis has the makings of a cult film - go buy it.
A Great Film August 10, 2000 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This film is one of the greats. I came to this not knowing what to expect. What I found was a film full of great actors giving powerful performances. I didn't believe a bit of the story but I dont think anyone tryed to make it real, they just tryed to make it enveloping. They succeded.pCameron Diaz gives a mighty performance as the spoilt daughter. You want to kill her and kiss her all at the same time. McGregor is great but my favourite is Hunter, she is just the most evil angel you have ever met.pMiss this film at your peril.
