Amazon.co.uk Review
IFriday/I is the rarest specimen of African American cinema: a hood movie refreshingly free of the semi-seriousness and moralism of shoot-'em-up soaps such as IBoyz N the Hood/I, yet still true to the inner-city experience. Scripted by rapper Ice Cube, IFriday/I is a no-frills tale of a typical day in the life of a pair of African American youth in South Central. Cube plays Craig, a frustrated teen who endures the ultimate humiliation: getting fired on his day off. Then unknown Chris Tucker plays Smokey, a marijuana-worshipping homeboy whose love for the green stuff lands him in predicament after predicament. Sitting on the stoop of Craig's rundown home, the two hilariously confront a kaleidoscopic array of gangbangers, weed dealers, crack heads, prostitutes, scheming girlfriends and neighbourhood bullies--all of whom, it should be noted, come off as sympathetic even as they are being caricatured, a true achievement in the crass, "booty call" environment of 1990s African American comedy. --IEthan Brown, Amazon.com/I

The funniest, coolest most amazing piece of film I have ever seen. You could watch this film everyday for the rest of your life and still love it. The best 'hood' movie, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? This is a superb film and awelcome addition to anyone's DVD collection. Chris Tucker is phenomenallyfunny as Smokey, and it's obvious from this film that he was going to gofar.brAll the characters are well written and acted; and are the key tothe film's brilliance. BUY IT!!!!

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC, is still Chris Tuckers best to date!   January 5, 2002

Friday is just ace, the film adds comedy to the usual homeboy film and doesnt concentrate on violence (i.e. boyz in the hood and menace society) which is why this film is so unique, a must buy if you want a laugh!!

5 out of 5 stars ALL TIME FUNNIEST FILM EVER!!   June 24, 2002

This film is a hilarious observation on life in the hood that also manages to be true to life as well. The part when Smokey is in Deevo's bedroom holding his skid-marked pants on a straw while almost being sick and trying not to wake him is the funniest thing you will ever see! I recommend it unreservedley so go out and buy it!brNext Friday is also an excellent film, although it suffers without Chris Tucker.

5 out of 5 stars I know you don't smoke weed but im gonna get u high 2day!   January 18, 2004

First I should let you know this film is not a serious film like Boys in the Hood but it does try to get the "Increase the Peace" message in its own way. Chris Tucker plays the hugely funny weed smoker Smokey and Ice Cube plays his best friend and hero of the film Craig. Basically this film follows Craigs life on a Friday (funny enough!) were nothing seems to go right. Craig meets up with a number of characters throughout this film such as the block bully Deebo and Smokeys supplier Big Worm (who fronts as a not very friendly ice cream man!) Basically this film has recurring jokes and if you watch Smokey a second time around you will see that these jokes begin right at the start. brChris Tucker is at his best in this film and if you enjoyed him in Rush Hour then I would advise you to buy this today! Ice Cube also plays his role very well with a great support from on screen family.brTucker has loads of classic lines that you will be saying over and over after you have finished watching this film!brThis is the best in the series of the Friday films so watch it and you will see what I mean. YOU WILL LAUGH OUT LOUD!
