Amazon.co.uk Review Like a soda pop left open all night, IFerris Bueller's Day Off/I seems to have lost its effervescence over time. Sure, Matthew Broderick is still appealing as the perennial truant, Ferris, who takes one memorable day off from school. Jeffrey Jones is nasty and scheming as the principal who's out to catch him. Jennifer Grey is winning as Ferris' sister (who ends up making out in the police station with a prophetic vision of Charlie Sheen). But there's a definite sense that this film was of a particular time frame: the 80s. It's still fun, though. There's Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" during a Chicago parade, and a lovely sequence in the Art Institute. But don't get it and expect your kids to love it the way you did. Like it or not, it's yours alone. --IKeith Simanton, Amazon.com/I

Head games are totally not my thing... June 24, 2009 Jeanette (Brockley) 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
Ferris Bueller has been described as a mature, responsible and patient guy - that is until he decides to skip school for the day, with hilarious consequences. He convinces his best friend to borrow his dad's restored Ferrari and they drive downtown to enjoy many sights of the city, viewing the uniquely constructed buildings. When the Ferrari is taken by garage assistants, Ferris ends up walking in the rain and hearing the raindrops hitting the sidewalk. And then he gets off the bus.

br /I am now going to look at some uniquely constructed buildings and listen to the sound of raindrops as they hit the sidewalk as these are other things recommended by Virgilio.
One of the best feel good movies of all time June 10, 2002 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a film that will lift your spirits every time. A real feel good movie, it delivers with a great story and first rate comedy. Matthew Broderick is perfect as Ferris, as is Mia Sara - his gorgeous girlfriend. Some reviewers have said it looks dated in places, personally I would say its a timeless classic. Has great music too.pYou can go into the plot in some detail, which reveals holes - but the film isn't about an intricate plot. Just trust me when I say it all comes together at the end! pThis film is well worth buying, because I gaurantee you will watch it again.....and again...and again....Just leave a few weeks in between or you'll kill its charm.pDVD version: great quality picture. Commentary by director. Not much else, but its not a hi-tec film. It gives you a great film with easy scene access - useful as some scenes you will want to watch over and over again.pThe essence of the story: Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and look around once in a while - you could miss it.
Ferris has all the luck November 9, 2003 Sally-Anne (Leicestershire, United Kingdom) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
The film has a simple plot. The hero takes a day off school and, with two of his friends, he 'does' Chicago. They have a lovely day, with many close encounters of the hair raising kind and they get away with it. Well, his friend Cameron doesn't entirely get away with it because the day out results in the destruction of his cold-hearted father's beloved car. Even that is positive though as it causes Cameron suddenly to sprout a back-bone and resolve to face his father, who's been an object of fear all his life - so very therapeutic for him.pFerris Bueller's Day Off has been well loved and repeatedly watched by a huge number of people (including me) for a lot of years. Why is it so popular still? It travels well and (in my opinion) it's stood the test of time. It's easy for most people to identify with at least one of the three truants. Everyone wants to have a good time, be clever, funny, talented, popular, admired, confident, fearless and lucky - like Ferris. He's obviously accustomed to being lucky and expects the odds to be permanently stacked in his favour. Both his parents have plenty of chances to spot him while he's awol - but they don't. He has the amazing good luck to have parents who only see what they expect to see and if the unexpected (Ferris anywhere he's not supposed to be) appears under their nose, it fails to register. That and the fact that they adore the rascal, are bound to have influenced the development of such an irrepressibly optimistic personality. So everyone loves Ferris and they all want to be his friend and to be like him. And he also seems to shelter his friends under the umbrella of his good fortune so they get away with whatever he draws them into. Under the circumstance, it must be inevitable that anyone wishing Ferris ill or trying to harm him, is bound to come a cropper - as Rooney (the figure of authority from school) does.pOh yes, and Ferris can sing and dance too. I wonder how many people watching the DVD get up to twist and shout with him. I do. The film makes you feel good. If you haven't watched it, I recommend that you do.
All time great. Now where is the soundtrack January 16, 2007 Sh Williams (Caerphilly, Wales, UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
If ever i appear on Mr and Mrs and they ask my partner what is my favourite all time film. she will answer "FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF." I cannot recall the number of times i have seen this film, and i will no doubt watch the same amount of times again. There are no negatives with this film. Well just the one:- WHERE IS THE SONDTRACK???? John Hughes stated that it wouldnt be eccletic (spelling) enough to sell. I will have to disagree.
br /If they made a sequal to this film, a sort of where are they now whould Ferris be the "Sausage King of Chicago"???
br /BUY IT IN FACT BUY TWO
