Every time I see a film with Chazz Palminteri, I'm sorry to say I'm disappointed and sadly, this film is no different. How on earth so many people can get together with the aim of making a film and create this lacklustre potboiler...

br /Linda Fiorentino is supposed to be sexy but her character's persona is so hard and cynical, one wonders what man would go for her unless he sought a Madame/Domme wielding a whip.
br /
br /I'm sure all the personnel in this film were capable of demonstrating their talents more effectively than in this film

I haven't seen this for a while either but I seem to feel obliged to review things that noone else has - although I assume people have actually seen it!
br /This is an ok film, it's very typical of the surge that came out in the late 80's although it has a later date (Body of Evidence, Watch over me etc etc) revolving around tepid sexual goings on usually from a male perspective with some other cover plot circling around it. I find it amusing it was nominated as worst film. According to Joe Eszterhas's autobiography he hated the final film as the director changed the script so much - threatening to remove his name from the credits (only placated by a blind script deal settlement). This should give early warnings to my mind about the quality. The main reason I can put forward for watching this would unfortunately be for males to have a good lascivious look at Linda who frequently is in a state of undress around home video equipment supposidly around the themes of secret goings on, murder, blackmail, important people etc etc. There's not that much suspense to be had, it's all quite predictable Hollywood stuff with titilisation thrown in to keep you interested and lacks the names to give it credibility. That said, if you like this kind of film it's not the worst thing around and maybe worth a look - it does deal more so with jealousy than some others around and so isn't quite as base.
The film that killed David Caruso's career (until CSI: Miami resurrected it) May 1, 2007 BS on parade 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Jade is bad. Very bad. A problem with Friedkin is that he likes his movies to be as ambiguous as possible. Unfortunately it never quite works out how he intends it to. Instead his films just end up being confusing when they should be intriguing. His grip on story telling is pretty weak because of this. Even this straight forward cop film is confusing in places were it shouldn't be (the same with To Live and Die in LA).
br /
br /The plot is strangely scattershot with meaningless scenes and the ending is confusing in two different ways. The close up of the dead body at the end is so badly filmed that I have no idea who it is; and the final dialogue between Fiorentino and Palminteri is way too ambiguous so I'm not sure what he's admitting to.
br /
br /The story is basically a melding together of Jagged Edge and Basic Instinct (both also written by the same writer as this film). Basic Instinct is a silly, but entertaining film. And Jagged Edge is decent enough though I found it to be a bit plodding; and it has the same difficult to identify dead body problem at the end of it as Jade. Jade is just plain dull.
br /
br /The direction is strangely over-heated with flash camera moves. This is probably a good thing as the film would be deathly dull without some pretty images to keep you going.
br /
br /The action stuff is well filmed but the dialogue scenes are boring.
br /
br /Sadly the car chase is pointless as we never find out who was driving the black car. I guess Friedkin meant it to be ambiguous. To the audience it's just irritating, confusing and in the end self defeating.
br /
br /For some reason the film has a constant threatening atmosphere, but it feels contrived, and some scenes that have no danger in them have this weird ramped up tension to them that's inappropriate. The scenes with Caruso and the Governor are comically bad with unconvincing threats being thrown at each other.
br /
br /If you want to ogle Fiorentino then watch The Last Seduction. The film's kinkier, she has a lot more screen time and the film is very, very good.
Danger-- rubbish ahead. March 31, 2009 Mr. P. N. Cairns (Birmingham United Kingdom) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Read this and save your money, without a doubt this film is probably the worst film i have ever seen(and i've seen some rubbish).I just don't know where to begin but i'll try, poor story, the acting i've seen better on the old BBC kids programe "The wooden tops" the list could go on.Im sure you must have something better to do with 90 minutes of your life, learn by my mistake, leave it well alone.UTTER RUBBISH.
