Amazon.co.uk Review Most critics couldn't get behind Bill Murray's modern retelling of Charles Dickens' IA Christmas Carol/I, finding it too unfocused at times and not nearly wicked enough. Still, if you are a Murray fan, you have to enjoy his deliciously nasty portrayal of the world's meanest TV executive, who has his cathartic moment one cold Christmas night in New York City. The various ghosts lead him on a ghost-town tour of Manhattan, with stops at holidays past, present and future and a Kumbaya moment when Al Green and Annie Lennox sing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart". The effects are otherworldly, but one wishes the writing were as sharp as Murray's edgy portrayal. --IMarshall Fine/I

Essential Christmas viewing December 16, 2002 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I just can't fault Bill Murray in this film...pHis interaction with all the other characters is top notch, whether he's bing the meanie by firing Elliot Loudermilk (Bobcat Goldthwaite) on Christmas eve or getting 12 bells knocked out of him by the fairy-like Ghost of Christmas Present.pIf you havn't seen this film, I suggest you get yourself a copy today, stick it on and sit through the whole thing eating that tin of Quality Street you'd bought for someone else but you know that the green triangles have been playing on your mind, havn't they?pGet into the Frank Xaviar Cross style of Christmas spirit!
Essential Christmas Movie! October 18, 2003 L. Brown (N E England) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I watch this movie several times each year, starting about October time and finishing with a Christmas eve viewing! Its an excellent, entertaining, funny, emotional and heart-warming version of A Christmas Carol. The ending scene and end-title soundtrack never fail to bring a tear to the eye and a warm fuzzy feeling! Light those candles, pour the mulled wine and enjoy!
An excellent Christmas Story November 25, 2006 Tangerine (North Yorkshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I actually can't believe that this film is 18 years old. A remake of a classic it has Bill Murray playing (brilliantly I might add) an arrogant, horrid TV executive who has forgotten the meening of Christmas. Visited by three 'ghosts' he soon realises the error of his ways. I won't however reveal if he does so or not!
br /I watch this every Christmas and it always impresses me. It is a modern take (for the time) of the original but its done well and is well worth owning. Buy it now!
Fantabulous! February 25, 2007 ShadowFox (London, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bill Murray has to be one of the greatest actors ever because he is just in the best films and acts in them so well, and Scrooged is no exception. He plays a brilliant baddie and, although I was only 4 when this film came out, it is one of those films that you can watch again and again. A timeless classic that will always be one of those films you can watch not only at Christmas but all-year round and find it funny!
A bit of a cracker! August 19, 2009 Mouldy Old Tartlet (London W1) Much like Blackadder's Christmas Carol [1988] [DVD] this is another worthy comic rendition of Dickens' classic, `A Christmas Carol'. Watch out for David `Buster Poindexter' Johansen as the wonderfully dry Ghost of Christmas Past.
