Amazon.co.uk Review Now and forever a favourite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes (IThe Breakfast Club/I) and directed by Chris Columbus (IMrs. Doubtfire/I) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realises he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries iHome Alone/i. Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top. I--Tom Keogh/I

christmas in 2 hours! October 16, 2000 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you're sat at home on a gloomy October afternoon with nothing to do, and it's raining outside and you just can't wait any longer for christmas to come around, then this is the film for you! pMacauly Culkin plays the cutest little boy who finds himself 'home alone' at christmas, and does all the things any normal kid would only ever dream of!pThis film puts you into full-on christmas mode and can lift any negative feeling that christmas is still miles off!

This is a must for any family, what a great film. Join Kevin after he is left home alone and see how he defends his home against two great would be burglars. But this time they have definately met more than their match.pLoads of action and loads of fun.pOh and next time you leave the house, make sure you've got everything!!!p10-10

If you havn't seen this film I strongley reccommend you do. It's full of laughs and fun from start to finish. Brilliant acting from Culkin,Pesci and Stern. An excellent way to spend a Saturday night in December. On the sofa watching this film and you can't get through Christmas without seeing it at least once.
an extra special christmas delight for all the family! December 21, 2000 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
this film is one of my personal favourites. it creates such a sense of warmth around christmas time and gives the family time to sit around and watch in absolute histerics! this is the first and best of the trilogy ( why they brought out a third without macauley was beyond me!) so this is a must have on any format.this is a film that will never age with time.... youll cringe when marv treads on a nail and crack up when they fall on micro-machines. a must have
I WISH I WAS HOME ALONE!!!!!!!!! November 29, 2000 ronans@talk21.com (Ireland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Macauly Culkin, plays kevin in the first two home alone movies, they are hilarious, in the first Kevin is left behind while his family jet off too france and he has to defend his house from the hillarious - Joe Pesci. In the secound home alone which i think is better, kev finds himself in new york, all alone and he bumps into no other than Joe Pesci aka marv!!!! and it all starts again- but maculay has matured and i think is now a better actor in the second movie.
