Camp as a scout jamboree! January 12, 2004 DP Stone (Belfast, UK) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
It had been a few years since I watched "Barbarella", and watching it again for a second time recently was joy, like discovering its kitsch joys for the first time all over again!pThere's no point dwelling on the plot, because it's as thin and transparent as most of Jane Fonda's outfits! This is pure high camp comedy, wonderfully played up a superb cast. Some wonderful characters, brilliant one liners, and some of the oddest sets and costumes ever seen on film. Highly unenjoyable and would be instantly forgettable were it not for Jane Fonda excelling as our heroine and also for introducing the name "Duran Duran" to the world!
Queen of the Galaxy December 15, 2004 bernie (Arlington, Texas) 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
I first saw this movie in a small theater outside West Point, NY in 1968. I remember the theater as it had moths on top of the popcorn in the dispensing machine. The movie was innovative for the time. And one of the characters is Duran Duran the inspiration for the band by the same name.pIn the 41st-century astronaut Barbarella (Jane Fonda) receives a message from the President of Earth (Claude Dauphin) and is tasked with a mission to track down a threat to the earth, the scientist Duran Duran (Milo O'Shea,) inventor of the "positronic ray." On her quest she must go through many trials and tribulations. We get to experience them vicariously. Put your tongue back in.pWill she find Duran Duran before it is too late?pWhen Jane looks back on her extensive career this will be her crowning performance. She never really re-captured that Barbarella spark.pI think that Barbarella inspired the opening scene of "My Stepmother is an Alien."

There aren't many films that can compete with Barbarella when it comes to camp sci-fi humour. It can be watched over and over again and never lose its appeal. Most importantly it should never be watched alone. A must for any insane person's video collection and a good video for anyone else. If you feel like an adult trip through wonderland this is your film.
Excellent !! July 27, 2004 R. Clark (Worthing) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
In the future, wars are unknown. But mad scientist DURAN DURANbrhas developed a ray gun that blasts people into the fourth diminsion.pJane Fonda (naked at the time) is called up by the president of the galaxy. Her mission is to drive her fur lined space ship, to the planet and stop DURAN DURAN.pDURAN DURAN captures her and puts her in a machine that kills young women by forcing them to endure massive orgasms. Jane Fonda takes all the machine can throw at her, and the mad scientist DURAN DURAN starts getting upset when it starts blowing up and catching fire.pOh and there is a evil entity called the MATMOS that is a bit like a lava lamp under the evil city.pIts wonderful 60's madness. BUY IT
It's Barbarella: What else do you need to know? October 29, 2003 Nicholas Schlesinger 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Ok, first of all, I'm sure you're just reading reviews of Barbarella for fun, because you have to buy it. Barbarella is a movie you can watch, re-watch and then watch again just for the hell of it. To convey the greatness that is Barbarella in mere text is impossible, so all I can really say is: buy Barbarella, and if for some strange, mystical reason, you don't like it, give to a friend, they will.
