Amazon.co.uk Review
A massively underrated action thriller which kept Schwarzenegger occupied between blockbusters, ICommando/I may be one of the last shoot-out films ever to have real characters in it. Not, of course, that they're anything other than stereotypes, but they're painted with such detailed, positive strokes that it's impossible not to relate to them. Arnie plays a retired military special-ops officer whose daughter (played with an expert balance of cute/feisty by Alyssa Milano) is kidnapped by the baddest of bad guys, who'll only hand her back as and when he's assassinated a tiresome banana-republic president on their behalf. Needless to say, Arnie is deeply annoyed by this, rescues the moppet single-handed amid more bullets and explosions than you can shake a stuntman's pay cheque at, and... well, why spoil the fun by revealing any more? Co-star Rae Dawn Chong gets some nice one-liners as the innocent bystander who gets caught up in the mayhem. p The DVD comes with no additional features at all, but who needs 'em anyway? I--Roger Thomas/I

5 out of 5 stars Review for Region 1 director's cut   January 30, 2009

I can reassure fans that the R1 director's cut is the full, unedited and uncut version of this glorious epic. I lost count of how many hired minions Schwarzenegger comically butchers in order to get his daughter back but I haven't seen many films where quite so many people die. Our hero of course is barely wounded in the process. If you enjoy classic 80's action movies full of cheesy one-liners this is as good as they get. br /The R1 DVD is worth getting as the cut scenes (in particular the garden shed scene) are definitely worth seeing. However, the R2 DVD is still packed with all the one-liners and the classic 'I lied' scene so no worries if you don't have a multi region player. Why don't they make films like this anymore?

5 out of 5 stars An Arnie Masterpiece   December 1, 2003

This is by far one of the greatest films ever. Arnie is insipered as John Matrix spurting out one liners all over the place and of course the magical never ending clip. The body count is the population of a small country. Who did he leave for us , "Only bodies !". There is also a superb performance by Bill Duke as the Green Beret Cooke.pSo you think this is another rubbish action fodder, right?brWRONG!!!!!

Arnold Schwarzemegger is at his over the top best in this dated action classic. There is little in the area of plot or character development, but come on... Who Cares? It's Arnie!! It's highly entertaining and great fun just as long as you don't think about it too much. It is quite possibly his best film, with perhaps the exception of "Total Recall". brAnd it has all his best lines: br"I let him go!" br"Remember when I said I'd kill you last... I Lied." brand of course the all time great br"Let off Some Steam!!!"brSome people may say it's violent... and y'know what...brThey're damn right!

This has got to be the best "fun" action movie ever made.Sure, everybody always mentions "Die Hard" as one of the best action movies ever made, and to be sure it is a cracking movie, but for overall fun you can't beat "Commando". br /When this was released in 1985 it was compared to "Rambo First blood part 2" and while there are obvious similarities,(one man army, lots of violence, strong emphasis on the physiques of the two stars)this has one very special ingredient;humour. The one-liners Arnie delivers are witty, appropriate, and just delightful."Do me a favour, don't disturb my friend,he's dead tired" he tells a stewardess after he's just broken the neck of the hench-man sitting next to him. br /The film is delightfully over the top, witness as Arnie's character goes "shopping" for guns and rocket launchers at a massive Army surplus super-store,witness as he takes on a whole Army single-handedly and barely gets a scratch.Yes,it's great fun and Rae Dawn Chong enters into the whole thing with glee as Cindy, the confused stewardess Matrix (Arnie's character)kidnaps in order to help him. br /Overall this is pure cinematic gold, not to be taken seriously, but to be seriously ENJOYED. br /This DVD is now even better as an uncut director's cut. br /Don't hesitate, just BUY IT NOW!

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Arnie film.....   November 19, 2003

Commando, is probably Arnie's best film of all time. It combines awsome action scenes with some of the best dialogue of all time. Arnie is after his kidnapped disrespectful daughter who, dispite covering his face with ice cream which i think Arnie should teach her some respect for, he wants to rescue her,(why?)... Well is does give Arnie the chance to kill undreds of 'goons'. One more thing. "Your gonna cooperate with us...right?"....."Wrong!". Boom! What a scene!!. And at £6 go buy......
