Amazon.co.uk Review The glowering brutality that is aikido head-banger Steven Seagal's substitute for a star persona at least gives us a rancid taste of authenticity in IMarked for Death/I, a cookie-cutter action picture. This glum lug seems really to enjoy hurting people; he snaps limbs and shatters noses with visible relish. Pitted against a gang of Jamaican gangsters who invade his (white ethnic) Chicago neighbourhood and threaten his family, retired DEA agent John Hatcher sets out to solve the case with robotic efficiency, kicking butt in just about every scene. Not quite as pudgy in this 1990 outing as he became a few films later, Seagal looks like the genuine, lethal article in the fight sequences but like a hopeless amateur when he tries to act his way out of the waterlogged-paper-bag of a script. So what else is new? The one bright spot here is Basil Wallace, a mostly unsung actor who throws himself into the showy role of the Rasta gang-boss Screwface, a garishly scarred psycho with piercing ice-blue eyes. --IDavid Chute, Amazon.com/I

action packed, a real pulse pounder. Bloody excellent! April 26, 2000 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Seagal gives a superb effort, full of blood and fighting. I would say the best in the whole collection. The action deliveres non-stop. It'll keep you on the edge of your seat right the way through the film. EXCELLENT!

This is one of my favourite DVDs, the first Steven Seagal film Isaw, and the reason I started my collection, one I play again and again, the combination of Voodoo, martial arts and storyline makes this a memorable film, wonderful setting and scenary, well worth my5 star award.
Action mixed with occult voodoo--absolutely classic September 29, 2001 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Unlike many actors onscreen Steven Seagal is a real Martial Artist having lived in Japan for many years with extensive experience in martial arts and cutting weaponry, clearly evident in the final scenes. Occult voodoo is thrown in for a wonderful action packed film

Classic Segal February 14, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
How can anybody not love this kind of movie? They're so much fun, (although this being Segal, it's a little more brutal than most Hollywood action movies). Forget the plot just asssume Steven Segal: Good kicks the ass of the Rastas:bad. I love the Rastafarian stereotypical bad guys. Love Segal's trademark bad acting (why can he never keep his head still when he's talking?) More importantly love Segal's fighting. He really was a hard son of a gun at the time of this movie and he obviously loves dishing out the punishment, in nearly every scene. That's what's great about Steven Segal, he doesn't shy away from the brutality in his early movies, and I love him for it.brThis movie isnt going to win an oscar but for wam bam thank you mam style violence, Segal is the king. Check out Nico, Hard To Kill, and Out For Justice as well.
