Amazon.co.uk Review Mel Gibson set aside his art-house credentials to star as a crazy cop paired with a stable one (Danny Glover) in this full-blown 1987 Richard Donner action picture. The most violent film in the series (which includes three sequels), iLethal Weapon/i is also the edgiest and most interesting. After Gibson's character jumps off a building handcuffed to a man, and Gary Busey (as a cold, efficient enforcer) lets his hand get burned without flinching, there is a sense that anything can happen, and it usually does. Donner's strangely messy visual and audio style doesn't make a lot of aesthetic sense, but it stuck with all four movies. I--Tom Keogh/I

Amazing June 6, 2000 michael@mkeevil.freeserve.co.uk (uk) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Without a doubt, Mel Gibbon's finest hour, and Glover's as well. Ground breaking performances from the two leaders. Is Roger Murtaugh 'too old for this s***', i don't think so.
An action film that was an instant classic! September 4, 2000 Along with 'Die Hard' in the late 80's, 'Lethal Weapon' is one of those rare genre-defying action movies. Not only is it a brilliant thrill-ride, but it is also one of the best buddy movies around. Mel Gibson stars as crazy LA cop Martin Riggs, who is a time bomb waiting to explode. Teamed up with new partner and family man Murtaugh (Danny Glover)the pair race off to stop a gang of murderous mercenaries.pPacked full of the usual stunts, and action capers this is a rare gem, that spawned three sequels, all directed by Richard Donner. Unfortunately they were not as exciting or as hard-edged as this original.
kick ass fun June 10, 2007 Ben Dover I watched Lethal Weapon 3 today, after buying the trilogy (I haven't seen 4, and I only buy movies I remember seeing and liking). It's still as good and funny as I remembered it; the other two movies are, too. There's just something so right in the chemistry between Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Riggs (Mel Gibson). I don't think any other actors could have pulled it off. You genuinely care for both of them. Danny Glover's infectious laugh and Gibson's endless one-liners never fail to make me giggle. What's so great is these movies often go from laugh-out-loud funny, to tear jerkingly serious, in a matter of moments. They keep you rivetted to the spot, cheering them on as they fight to right injustice and "get the bad guys". And when they do, you feel real exhileration and want to punch the air very much like Riggs does (like in Lethal Weapon 2 when he brings that whole house collapsing down the hill, killing the bad guys within!) Some would say this is just cliched, painting with numbers movie-making. Maybe it is, but it just works! Even now, decades on, Lethal Weapon 1, 2 3 still hold up well as all-action, no-holds-barred, funny kick-ass flicks. The only thing I don't get is, Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 are 18 cert, with strong language and violence; Lethal Weapon 3 is 15, even though it has strong language (numerous "melon farmer" references, if you know what I mean) and general cussing as well as the obligatory gun violence. Why the lower certification?

br /Anyway, if you're knew to this series, just buy Lethal Weapon first to decide. But they're all well worth it, in my opinion. Well, at least 1,2 3 are.
lethal combo July 11, 2009 Rosemary O. Neill I just love Mel and Danny together in this film, there's comedy, sadness and real grit in this film. One to buy to watch again and again.

lethal weapon is a 1987 cop buddy movie that blended in the over zealous blood kill that incorporated the 80s in the action movie genre, mel gibson and danny glover play riggs and murtaugh, two cops who come from different backgrounds, lead very different lives and treat their sense of living differently as gibson is more gung ho who has a death wish since his wife was killed due to him being a cop, glover is a family man, getting on in age who prides himself on playing it safe.
br /The two cops have to learn to work with eack other, like each other amd then respect each other all the while fighting evil and trying to uncover a murder plot, the film is witty and intense and violent and thats what we love.
