Amazon.co.uk Review The real magic of David Blaine is in his command of an all-walks-of-life audience, but featured here is the "Frozen in Time" show that follows the preparation and aftermath of his three days and nights entombed in a six-ton block of ice. The footage is often quite alarming, as is a narration explaining his state of mind at the end. Visited by his girlfriend, Kevin Spacey and Michael J Fox (in subtler fashion than Leo DiCaprio on the IMystifier/I show), it's all about re-affirming the reality of the situation. Intercut with the Times Square footage is plenty of the street magic Blaine excels at. Confounding the NY Knicks and increasingly eccentric passers-by, you'll see him resurrect dead animals, cry the diamond from a woman's ring and bafflingly show off a tattoo of a complete stranger's girlfriend. Fans are treated to his very first video footage test of the show format as well as the dearly departed (!) Tarko the Great.p BOn the DVD:/B Get ready for abject frustration as you spend ages working out how to access the disc's "beautiful secrets". Once you do, there are lots of little surprises to enjoy--such as Blaine being told off by the Memphis police, a mini photo gallery, levitating money in Haiti and five minutes of making the DVD, where you see a very bored crew at his commentary recording. The main feature commentary is quite sporadic in how much he has to say, but is actually very revealing. Don't expect any giveaway explanations, but it is a genuinely fascinating insight into the mind responsible for some truly spectacular feats of magic. --IPaul Tonks/I

| Customer Reviews: I'm a believer! November 11, 2001 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
First of all I thought the video was called 'snowman' and was just going to be about his ice burial. After I watched it and saw it was called 'showman' I thought - of course yes! what a perfect professional artist he is, and out on the streets of contemporary everyday life as we knew it! I wouldn't care if I was being totally set up hoodwinked and taken for a ride by a showman this cool. Please let me walk in a concrete jungle and come across this magical shaman. His personality comes across as brother/friend/sister and I don't care if it is all hokus pokus, let me believe in it for a bit longer. Yes he makes you laugh, yes he makes you feel wonder again, even when at the same time you may be thinking 'who does this guy think he is, what a poser!' This video cheered me up completely. The balance between the ice burial stunt and his card/people magic is just right. You will find yourself going with the flow and just wanting more more more magic please!.
You thought his first DVD was good!.......Well try this one! November 15, 2001 ANDREW POSTLETHWAITE 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
David Blaine is the best Magician of our time. His first DVD cosisted of his 2 TV specials 'Magic Man' and 'Street Magic' which were amazing. But now his new DVD 'David Blaine: Showman' explores his amazing feat he surpassed in November of last year. Where he stood for 61 hours in a 3 Ton block of Ice in Newyork's Time square. This latest DVD contains his whole 'Frozen in time' TV special. But it has added commentry by David blaine and a host of new unseen magic. It's an extended version of the 'Frozen in time' TV special seen on Channel4. Plus there's a load of hidden features all over the DVD. They are clverly hidden and if you find them you'll see a 'Making of the DVD' doccumentry and other unseen magic. There's seen selection too so you can skip to your favourite magic scenes. But the thing i found the most interesting on the DVD is the first ever footage David filmed out on the streets of Newyork with his friend. It shows the freaky reactions of the first ever spectators David caught on film showing his magic. This DVD rocks! If your a Dvaid Blaine fan, this is a muct have. Even if youv'e never seen David before i highly recomend this DVD. Truely amazing!p........Just can't wait for his next DVD title!
Blaine conjures up more of his best, and it just got better. November 12, 2001 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Blaine conjures up some more improntu magic all over again.brThis David Blaine special is a compilation of his first TV special Street Magic and his recent Frozen In Time special where he spent 3 days inside a block of ice. The Street Magic special was the first time many people had seen David Blaine, his style of magic is amazing and all done on the street with people he just walks up to. David's magic is out of this world and will leave you wondering for years how he did it. The Frozen In Time sequence is a fantastic effort of his powers of endurance as David is sealed inside a huge block of ice in Times Square, NY and has to stay in there for as long as possible.

This is an absolutely fantastic DVD from David Blaine. Watch this as he performs the wildest of all magic tricks never seen before. This is by far the best DVD by David and with stunning, endless tricks to keep you entertained, this is a DVD you must own. This is guaranteed to make you question the ways in which David performs these tricks and illusions and death defying stunts. If you don't believe in magic, this DVD will surely make you believe anything is possible.
MORE AMAZING STREET MAGIC! November 15, 2001 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This DVD is fairly hard to navigate through, as the animated menus are unclear, however there is lots to see.brSome clips are very funny, the segment with Tarquo the Great is worth the price of DVD alone.brWith 20 minutes of extras and commentary, David Blaine fans wont be dissapointed.
