Amazon.co.uk Review
Built around Bryan Adams' Ireland show, ILive at Slane Castle, Ireland/I is just one of the stops on his massive world tour in 2000. Adams, the gravely voiced "Groover from Vancouver", rose to prominence in the 1980s with rock hits such as "Cuts Like a Knife" and "Summer of '69", but has more recently been transformed into something of a Hollywood troubadour, scoring hits with songs such as "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" (from IRobin Hood Prince Of Thieves/I) and "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" (from IDon Juan DeMarco/I). Flanked by drummer Mickey Curry and guitarist Scott on guitar, the trio perform amidst the stately surroundings of Slane Castle. Bryan and his band cover most of the singer's vast repertoire, including "18 Til I Die", "Heaven", "Run to You", "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", "Best of Me" and his recent hit with Mel C, "When You're Gone" (for which the indefatigable songstress pops in unexpectedly for a croon). Adams proves he is a confident and charismatic host, bringing fans up on stage to sing with him, cracking jokes and generally behaving like soft rock's "Mr. Nice Guy". Other musical guests are drafted in throughout the show, namely Davy Spillane and Chicane's Nick Bracegirdle. The crowd show their appreciation by singing well-known lines when the band fall purposefully silent and holding their lighters aloft for the more poignant moments. There are not a lot of musical adventures in Adams' music--just slightly anachronistic and often clichéd formulas--but for the 56,000 people watching at Slane Castle (many of them surprisingly young and enthusiastic), it certainly seems to do the trick. p BOn the DVD:/B though the concert gives a good profile of Adams and his music, the extras on the DVD struggle to be quite so entertaining. The accompanying booklet is colourful enough with a few bad photos of Bryan inside, but is intensely uninformative. On the disc there are backstage sections, which show him rehearsing to a crowd of two, and the "nerve wracking" moments just before he goes on stage. As insights go, these are banal to say the least. The interview section also misses a great opportunity to ask the singer about a 20-year career full of big hits, concentrating instead on such racy and profound topics as pre-gig nerves and favourite song. The gallery of photography--some shot by the excellent Anton Corbijn--is tastefully done and there is also the option to view five of the songs from the 360-degree static view, a facility that is a novelty but hardly captures the moment. There is an opportunity to go "interactive" with Bryan by placing the disc into your PC.--IPaul Sullivan/I

5 out of 5 stars Bryan Rocks Ireland   February 20, 2002

The fans had to wait long for it to arrive, but in December 2001 it was finally there: The Slane Castle DVD. This concert was recorded at Slane Castle in Ireland in the summer of 2000 and it features a lot of guest appearences that night. Melanie C, Davy Spillane and Nick Bracegirdle (Chicane) all came onstage to play and sing along with Bryan. This concert is of magnificent quality, both image and sound quality are of a high level - and not to forget: this DVD has multiple viewing angles, making it even more exciting to watch the concert. The extra's included are 3 bonus tracks: Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman, Into The Fire and Before The Night Is Over, plus there is an interview with the band about their experiences over the past years. Also to be seen are the rehearsal of the concert and a nice picture gallery. My conclusion: This DVD should belong in every Bryan Adams' fan DVD player, a true must-have! Even for non Bryan Adams fans, this is the way to meet Bryan's music:pit features all of his greatest hits, including some tracks from various albums also :) brI can recommend this DVD to anyone, it's great!pTom Verbroekken.

5 out of 5 stars Just Brilliant   December 5, 2002

What can I say?! This DVD is just brilliant. All the best Bryan Adams tracks in his great live style. Bryan Adams et al doing what they so obviously love, a live gig.brWickedly sexy in "Blues Jam" Bryan has the audience in the palm of his hand. "Summer of '69" a classic participation event, he plays the guitar and the audience sing the song.brFans of Bryan will not be disappointed with this one, its great to turn up loud and dance round the living room to.

5 out of 5 stars Bryan Adams Rocks Slane   October 7, 2003

Bryan adams apart from being an excellent rock singer is a master at crowd pleasing and engagement. He is also an excellent guitarist with a capacity to write and express very simple rock songs that work well in stadiums. He doesnt fail to please here.brHis accompanying musicians Mick Curry (drums) and Keith Scott (lead guitar) are his able and willing partners and demonstrate what having fun on stage is all about. The atmosphere is electric. All of the Adams classics are here along with Chicanes "Dont give up" where Bryan is honest about where he comes in or not as the song develops. Great "ad-libbing".brSo....if you like good solid stadium rock with a smattering of sensistivity and excellent guitar playing with a happy jumping crowd of over 50,000 fans then this is for you. It doesnt date.

Bryan Adams. These two words can only mean one thing. Excellence. This concert rocks the world. I don't have enough words to express what i felt when I watched it. Bryan Adams is really the best. Though the way he sings his songs might sound a little different than whatyou have heard on his CDs, he does it in a perfect way and his songs doesn't sound a bit less great. br /The DVD includes most of his greatest hits br / br /Back to You br /Summer of 69 br /(Everything I do) I do it for you br /I'm Ready br /Heaven br /The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me is You br /Don't Give Up br /Run to You br /Please Forgive me br /..... and many more.... br / br /I was really astonished by the way he performes Don't Give UP and Heaven. You just gotta see this. And the way the crowd sings along with him makes the DVD even better. br /The bonus features are also great. There are 3 Bonus Tracks (Have you really loved a woman?, Into the Fire, Before the Night) br /Also you have some backstage footage, interview with the band and many more. br /But the concert is the real thing. If I could rate this DVd with 10 stars I would definitely do it. br /If you are a BA fan you just can't miss this DVD. If you are not just try it and I will welcome you to the Bryan Adams club afterwards.

5 out of 5 stars Bryan Adams at his best - live!   April 17, 2002

If you have been to a Bryan Adams concert, you can imagine why this DVD is a must-have. Bryan gives his best live. He is a complete peformer, who knows how to involve the audience and have real fun on stage, while keeping the music always at top level.brSome of the songs sound refreshingly different from the version you might be used to, as the band is now made of only 3 elements (bass, drums, guitar, with Bryan on the bass) and many of the tunes have been re-arranged. Some songs, especially the classic ballads like Everything I Do or Heaven, gain a lot from this, as they lose the over-production they have on the record and acquire a stunning simplicity.brThis is an excellent DVD, with great music and high-quality images and sound. It gives a chance to "meet" the band through the interview (a rare one as drummer Mickey Curry and guitarist Keith Scott don't usually take parts to interviews). brThe backstage bits are really interesting, as we get to see a surprisingly very nervous Bryan seconds before the show starts.brIf you're not a BA fan and want to know what it is all about, check this out - and go to one of his gigs as soon as you have a chance. I am pretty sure you'll be hooked, like I was :).brRoberta
