Amazon.co.uk Review Ben Stiller originally created the vacuous male model hero of IZoolander/I for the VH1 Fashion Awards. In his big-screen appearance, Stiller's Derek Zoolander is New York's top model and proud creator of the tight-lipped "facial expression" Blue Steel. However, competition comes in the shape of equally empty-headed young buck Hansel (Owen Wilson), who wins the coveted male model of the year award, much to Derek's dismay. When Derek's vapid friends are then incinerated in an unfortunate petrol station incident he is left vulnerable and alone, perfect fodder for fashion designer supremo Mugatu (a brilliantly surreal Will Ferrell) to hatch a plot of IManchurian Candidate/I-sized proportions in which Derek is brainwashed into assassinating the Malaysian Prime minister at a fashion show. Derek enlists the help of investigative journalist (Christine Taylor) and even Hansel himself in an attempt to thwart Mugatu's devious plot. p IZoolander/I works thanks to the central performances. Stiller is endearing in his one-dimensional ineptitude, Wilson is shallow hippie cool personified, and there are some great cameos by the likes of David Duchovny as a Deep Throat-esque informer, Milla Jovovich as the eastern European sadomasochistic henchwoman and Jon Voight as Zoolander's coal mining dad. A constant parade of other celebs pop up throughout playing themselves. Admittedly it's a one-joke film, but there are some classic scenes along the way and at its best IZoolander/I is an entertaining dig at an industry that takes itself far too seriously. p BOn the DVD:/B IZoolander/I comes to DVD in an anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen presentation that's clear and crisp with strong colours, which perfectly shows off the cartoonish style of the film. The audio is consistently sharp. Extra junkies will find plenty of material: deleted scenes, including an extended "Mine" scene and Winona Ryder trying to pick-up Hansel; amusing outtakes; and a great commentary from Ben Stiller with writers Drake Sather and John Hamburg. Best of all is the original VH1 Fashion Show skits which were the inspiration for the film. --IKristen Bowditch/I

Derek Zoolander, a model idiot? March 13, 2007 R. Mullaney (Leeds, UK) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
When the Prime Minister of Malaysia announces he is going to erradicate child labour in his country, shadowy figures of the fashion industry hatch a plot to assassinate him so they can continue to exploit far eastern sweat shops. Dim witted male model Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) is chosen as the assassin due to his extreme physical fitness and low IQ which will allow him to be brainwashed into the ultimate killer. The ludicrous plan just might work, but Derek has other things on his mind, such as losing out to new boy Hansel (Owen Wilson) as male model of the year. Fashion honcho Mugatu must convince Derek to be the new face of 'derelicte', a new line which will be unveiled at a show attended by the Malaysian Prime Minister, a perfect opportunity to kill him....

br /Zoolander pokes fun at the fashion world brilliantly and Ben stiller has created a hilarious character in Derek. It's all refreshingly politically incorrect (Derek and Hansel tell an ex-bullimic that throwing up after meals is a great way to lose a few pounds) and the evil Mugatu is played to perfection by Will Ferrell. It's all a bit ridiculous but will have you in stitches from beginning to end.

loved it September 7, 2006 Sapsopo (england) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
first of all i'd like to say my review may be biased as a love ben stiller and owen wilson. i just giggles throughout this film. i absolutely loved it and derek's pose just makes me laugh so much. seriously guys i know it looks weird but it sure as hell is wonderful. if you're not sure maybe rent first but at a fiver a go you can't really go wrong. i'm not gonna spoil it by going into it in detail but ben stiller and owen wilson are competing male models who get caught up in something sinister. watch this movie it is just a smile fest throughout as its so good.
WHAT IS THIS? A CENTRE FOR ANTS?! May 2, 2007 Mr. A. Sands (UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
For a start, if you're not a fan of Ben Stiller then you probably won't be a fan of this. But then why would you be reading this?

br /Widley ignored on it's cinema release, this has, like Fight Club, become a "dvd-cult classic", especially amongst students. The performances by Stiller Wilson are brilliant, who both play the dumb vacuous male model with ease. Ferrel in particular steals the show though, playing an incredibly camp/evil fashion designer.

br /Countless cameos throughout gives the film a fun, care-free feel. Another thing I love about this film is it's endless quoteability, which you can really appreciate when you chat to other fans about it. Leave your brain at the door whilst watching this and enjoy it for the random stupidity that it is.
Really really really ridiculously good...looking September 10, 2006 Alec Ham (North West England) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Zoolander is top of my Ben Stiller dvd pile...which happens to be a considerable pile. The plot is unbelieveably original in the sense that no-one bar Stiller and Owen Wilson could make me want to watch a movie about models. From the outset this is a great film and the brilliant "Blue Steal" has given me a pose for every photo that I'll ever be in. The film is packed with laughs and absolute genius lines; "What is this! A house for ants!" and "They were like brothers to me. And I don't mean actual brothers but I mean it like the way black people say it. Which is more meaningful I think." Its great to see Stiller and his superb film producing gang including Owen Wilson, Will Farrell and Christine Taylor...heck Vince Vaughn even makes an appearance. Not to mention Milla Jovovich and David Bowie. Buy this film!!!
a film best not forgotten September 14, 2002 S. Clarke (warrington, england) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This was one of those films that i chose because there was nothing else to watch and time needed to be passed. It turns out that this is one of the most original comedies that has ever been created.br Anybody that has seen Ben Stiller's previous films will know that he tends to play roles that are verging on comedy but not outright, in your face stuff. This film shows us a new side of his character as he fits easily into a role such as this. It is always difficult to make a comedy without it being too over the top and on the verge of stupidity, few films have made it (Naked Gun etc) but this manages to pull it off superbly. Owen Wilson and Stiller seem as if they work together on every film as they interact with each other. br The basic story is that Eric Zoolander is the establishde male model with his array of poses such as blue steel. Tgis film seems to sum up the model industry while at the same time ridiculing it for all it's worth. If this film is anything to go by we have witnessed the birth of the new Leslie Nielsen, Ben Stiller is that good!!!!!!
