Amazon.co.uk Review
While it invites charges of Hollywood nepotism, IOrange County/I overcomes that stigma with a delightful cast of newcomers and veterans alike. It's no better or worse than many teen comedies, but director Jake Kasdan (son of director Lawrence Kasdan) astutely combines teen-flick staples (stoner gags, raucous parties) with a biting undercurrent of southern California absurdity. This comedic texture helps Colin Hanks (son of Tom) and Schuyler Fisk (daughter of Sissy Spacek) to prove their big-screen promise. They play (respectively) an Orange County teen and aspiring writer named Shaun who yearns for admission to Stanford, and his sensible girlfriend who knows just how to nurture his dreams. Much of the comedy arises from the foibles of Shaun's dysfunctional family (played to perfection by Jack Black, Catherine O'Hara and John Lithgow), while unbilled cameos by Ben Stiller and Kevin Kline add zest to a movie that tries to be different, and mostly succeeds. --IJeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars just brilliant   August 26, 2004
Jack Black

well, wot can i say? i went to watch school of rock at the cinemas and it was absolutly brilliant, as are all jack black films, if a film has JB in it then you can guarantee that it will be funny. the jack black pack would be great value at full price but with it being cheaper it is a boxset that you have to add to your collection! although orange county doesn't have the best of plots it is worth getting just for jbs performance! just buy it

It is so funny. You can watch it again and again. Neat box too, which makes it a great Birthday or Christmas present. Even if you don't like Jack Black or haven't even heard of him you would think both were great.

4 out of 5 stars Great American comedy!   September 20, 2003

All you need to know: This film is FUN-NY!! Sometimes it's really super just to kick back with a light hearted film (with the obvious poignant message at the end of course) and just enjoy it. Jack Black is once again a crazy, dim character with some great one-liners and surreal jokes that are just hysterical, and Schuyler Fisk makes a decent and slightly more sophisticated come-back after her role in "The Babysitters Club". Colin Hanks is cute as Shaun and his obvious love for family and friends is quite touching.br With a crazy and fun plotline that really holds your attention, a great soundtrack and clever humour combined with traditional slapstick this film is superb! Watch it!

4 out of 5 stars The real OC   June 17, 2005

Orange County. The reason I bought this is because Jack Black is my god. However, although the appearance of the aforementioned genius was good, the whole film is actually very good. The storyline is pretty basic but the actors come off with great performances. Also doesn't seem like a 12 certificate which is a bonus for me. Rewatchable which is the key to buying a dvd.
