Amazon.co.uk Review IRoad House/I is one of those movies that helped usher out the era of action films that had feasible plot lines (and also helped reverse the direction of Patrick Swayze's career arc). Swayze stars as Dalton: a handsome, existential bouncer who owns both a degree in philosophy and a Mercedes and that's perhaps the most believable aspect of the whole movie. Dalton runs afoul of Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the meanest SOB round these parts, by taking up with his former girlfriend, Doc (Kelly Lynch)--the only woman in town with an IQ approaching double digits, even if she had unfathomably hooked up with such a lowlife. Swayze had complained about being typecast as beefcake when this was made, but that didn't stop him from revealing as much skin as possible. It's so insulting to its audience that it's nice to be able to turn the tables and laugh at the filmmakers.--IDavid Kronke, Amazon.com/I

I thought you'd be bigger February 20, 2001 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This a film that as its ups and downs but overall this is one of patrick swayze's better films.Dalton is the best bouncer in the business and he is asked to clean up the mess by Wesley and his goons.1 by 1 he knocks of wesley's goons and then gets ready for the final showdown.Along the way he falls in love with Wesley's ex who is a doctor at the local hospital. Then he asks his old pal for help and things then go from bad to worse. There is an execellent sound track and the film has good support from Jeff healey who plays Cody who used to sing at daltons old club. He shows why he is canada's number one musical export. The film is not as violent that it is made out to be there are some good fight scences in it.This is a film that is overall very good and i would recommed anyone to buy it.The choice is yours.
Best US film of the era August 8, 2003 BabyBoris (UK) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
You have to love this film. Genius 80's cheese. The script ain't bad, the acting is reasonable and the fight scenes were choreographed by Benny The Jet, who kickboxers will know as a bit of a hero. Oh and it helps to be drunk to truly appreciate it.
great - excelent - one of the best October 10, 2001 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The best movie Patrick Swayze ever done. If you like the good action movie with a little touch of romance, love and sex, and if you wont to feel good after looking it - this is the one.
I HATE ACTION MOVIES April 24, 2007 A. Doyle (spain) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
but this one has to be admired, revered, even as it has everything that an entertaining film should have. no, it's not intellectual and the acting's crap and the storyline is in my opinion pretty much the same as every other action movie in existence, but it has a hero with elvis hair who is still cool(and a philosopher and karate expert who does his own stitches without anaestheic), a sexy love intrest with huge hair who also happens to be a doctor, an excellent baddie, dopey henchmen, a mean (though extremely pouffy) rival, a tough mentor, awesome music including tito and tarantula of dusk till dawn fame, bar fights and monster trucks running over cars in a showroom. it's as though the makers sat down and decided to compile every adolescent fantasy that they ever had an put them in a movie. highly enjoyable.

Best Worst Film Of The Year (1989) June 10, 2008 PhilsterNo1 (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nothing special to add to all the other ambivalent encomia already shovelled onto this mess of a film. Lots of good ingredients that add up to nothing but unintended laughs.

br /Fast cars, explosions, naked chicks for the guys, naked Swayze for the girls (and for Swayze himself), and of course, superb fight sequences. The story and the total absence of police are simply ludicrous.
br /
br /Funny thing is, when Dalton's bouncer-mentor turns up to help, about halfway through the movie, he's so much cooler than Dalton you want to skip the plot and just tag along with him. An opportunity wasted.

br /Definitely one to put with other films you reckon are good because they're bad.
