Amazon.co.uk Review
First and foremost a star vehicle for Tom Cruise, this paper-thin Horatio Alger story of a young bartender with dreams of get-rich-quick success is notable only for Cruise's immense likeability in contrast to a creaky plot and thinly drawn characters. Cruise plays Brian Flanagan, a young entrepreneur and ladies' man who with his mentor (Bryan Brown) takes the New York bar scene by storm. Through setbacks and tragedy, Brian eventually realises there's more to life than a quick buck, and fights for the woman he loves (Elisabeth Shue). Despite its shortcomings, a worthwhile viewing for Tom Cruise fans. --IRobert Lane, Amazon.com/I

The best film i have ever scene which stars the very sexy Tom Cruise. He is so gorgeous in this film and the storyline keeps you on the edge of your seet. My favourite scene is the waterfall with shelter of your love by Jimmy Cliff playing in the back ground.

A truely superb film, from the first time I saw this film it has just made me want to go and buy a bar in the Carrabean. brSuperb story line, and an excellent love story.brIn my opinion this has been Roger Donaldson's finest ever film.

THIS IS A MUST OWN.brOk even I am a male and found this just fantastic, if you don't like TC you can always laugh at how they managed to find so many other short actors?! Anyway the lines are 'must takes' in that they are so usable out on todays streets, watch this, learn the lines, live better!

The older i get the more i hanker after classics like this. I cannot believe this film is 20 years old. It's as good today as it was when first released, so I guess it's a classic. Even before he became massive in Hollywood Tom Cruise was making corkers - this and Top Gun have to be my favourite. 20 years on and the issues covered in the movie are still relevant and do not come over as dated at all.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best movies ever!   April 24, 2009
