Cruise plays Brian Flanagan, a young entrepreneur and ladies' man who with his mentor (Bryan Brown) takes the New York bar scene by storm. Through setbacks and tragedy, Brian eventually realises there's more to life than a quick buck, and fights for the woman he loves (Elisabeth Shue). He is so gorgeous in this film and the storyline keeps you on the edge of your seet. My favourite scene is the waterfall with shelter of your love by Jimmy Cliff playing in the back ground. Tom Cruise plays a part that every man wants to be. Clark (West Sussex, UK) The older i get the more i hanker after classics like this. I cannot believe this film is 20 years old. It's as good today as it was when first released, so I guess it's a classic. Even before he became massive in Hollywood Tom Cruise was making corkers - this and Top Gun have to be my favourite. 20 years on and the issues covered in the movie are still relevant and do not come over as dated at all.
