Amazon.co.uk Review
Behind the generic title of IBoys and Girls/I lies a surprisingly enjoyable and nuanced romantic comedy. Teen heartthrob Freddie Prinze Jr plays Ryan, a dorky, emotionally sincere young guy who keeps crossing paths with Jennifer (Claire Forlani), an independent and wilfully unattached young woman. Their chance meetings coincide with relationship traumas and they start to confide in each other, which leads to a more genuine friendship and, in the midst of their college years, a romance. It's a bit of a stock plot line to have their friendship threatened by sexual attraction, but IBoys and Girls/I has just enough genuine feeling to make it compelling. Meanwhile, Jason Biggs (from IAmerican Pie/I) plays Ryan's roommate, a compulsive liar and would-be scam artist, who carries off some pretty funny scenes. Forlani and Prinze work together quite well. Their performances hearken back to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, with the repressed male simultaneously attracted and horrified by a footloose dame. Some kooky moments are a little strained, but at other times the movie has a refreshing realism about human emotions. --IBret Fetzer, Amazon.com/I

5 out of 5 stars Well Well Well   June 1, 2004

I saw this film for the first time last nite, and what can i say i loved it. Im a real sucker for these romantic comedy chick flicks, and this one was a classic which made me consider my own relationships, and how complicated relationships can be. Freddie Prinze Jr and Claire Forlani, seemed to have great on screen chemistry, which allowed you to understand the turmoil the characters were going through, and relate it to everyday life. In short i loved this film so much, that ive now ordered it, and cant wait to watch it again. if only there were more good honest romantic comedies out there, instead of the run of the mill pap we receive from this genre.

5 out of 5 stars Why do I like this film??   June 1, 2003

I like many kinds of film, from Argento/Fulci OTT horror to Leslie Nielsen slapstick comedy, stopping off at Usual Suspects-esque cleverness, Arnie-the-action-hero stupidity and all manner of cult films in between.pOne genre I've always steered clear of is teen films (more specifically the romance ones, as I love Mallrats and its ilk) - my sister has an unexplainable love of films such as Get Over It, which I can't stand. So all in all I must have been pretty bored when I decided to watch this film, which I came upon by chance at 4.00 in the morning while flicking through the Sky movie channels. After about 20 minutes, I realised that I quite liked this film; by the end, I knew I loved it, and was wondering what was wrong with me.pHaving steered clear of the majority of such films, I didn't recognise the Ryan-actor as Freddie Prinze Jr; I did however recognise Claire Forlani as the lovely Jennifer, primarily because of her role as Brandi Svenning in Mallrats but also as the waitress in Mystery Men and the daughter in The Rock. pI think the plot is fairly generic, an image not dispelled by possibly the cheesiest name for a film in a long time. But, besides the fact that Claire Forlani is just all kinds of nice, this film somehow involves you with its characters and events, so that you feel as if you know them, and really want everything to work out.pIts not as if this is the first thing to achieve this - I personally got over-involved with Final Fantasy 8, Blackadder, Back to the Future and many others, to the point that I got depressed when bad things happened to the people in them. Its also not as if as film has to achieve this to be considered great - for example I love the Usual Suspects, but I can't feel sorry for any of them when they get hurt, or stabbed, or whatever; they're just not that involved. With Boys and Girls, you really get to know Jennifer and Ryan, and to a lesser extent their room-mates, Amy and Hunter/Steve, and the level of personalisation made me really enjoy watching it.p

I absolutely love this film. i remember when i first saw this film whilst flicking through sky and it made me think of my friend mike. we didnt really like eachother at first (well, he didnt like me!) but as time went on we got closer and closer. just like jen and ryan do in the film. we'd compare our relationships like they do, it was almost like a mirror image. We became best friends and he was my most favourite person in the world. i had kind of liked him for a while and one day, we ended up getting 2gether and soon after that, we slept 2gether. now, we hardly talk and sleeping together changed everything. jen and ryan got their happy ending, i just need 2 wait for mine...!!pAnyway, this film is so good. SO GOOD!! the acting is flawless and theres so much that u can relate to.... this is such a good film, watch it and love it like i do...!!!

This is one of them films that you see at first and think, "oh, it's one of them cheesy romantic films!". But you'd be very much mistaken.br Freddie Prinze plays the dorky, bookworm guy who likes everything planned, while Claire Forlani is the girl who is outgoing, as she lives life as a free-spirit.br They meet on various (some funny) occasions throughout their lives but end up becoming the best of friends at university. After both being unsuccessful in finding love, they spend one night together which changes their lives forever!br Jason Biggs also plays the hilarious room mate, who needs Freddie's help to understand what women actually want from a man. He provides a great supporting role and helps pump up the fun.br A very good film!

This was a great film, good for teenagers upwards and is a really sweet love story. I enjoyed this very much even though I have watched the film many times. I recommend it very much.
