Amazon.co.uk Review For all those of us who spent months debating the Will versus Gareth battle, IPop Idol: A Star is Born/I is the ideal fix of cheesy IPop Idol/I action for anyone missing their weekend dose. While those fascinated by the dubious talents at the audition stage will love the IPop Idol: Raw Talent!/I video, IA Star is Born/I starts from the point where the contest was between 10 finalists, ending with Will's triumphant victory. p This video is basically a compilation of performances from the show, which also includes Ant and Dec presenting the wannabes, and although you can't help but love those cheeky Newcastle lads, their introductions become annoyingly repetitive. There are no new stories or additional behind-the-scenes footage here: it's principally about the performances, which were the main reason we tuned in so addictively. Highlights include Will's performance of "Light My Fire" and Hayley's "That Old Devil Called Love". It is fascinating to see Will, the dark horse at the start of the competition, slowly begin to shine in a triumph of flexibility and consistency. Against the patchy performances of some of the others, it's easy to see why Will and Gareth made it to the final two. The contest both united and divided the country but any fan of the series will find plenty of their favourite moments here.--IRachel Ediss/I

The antidote to those Saturday night withdrawal symptoms March 12, 2002 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
Pop Idol - a star is born tracks the series through the final ten heats to that unforgettable, nail-biting, record-breaking final. This video is a must have for both pop idol fanatics and people who just got caught up in the hype of it all. It shows us Will and Gareth's performance's from every round, including Will's untouchable rendition of 'Ain't no Sunshine' and Gareth's spine-tingling version of Yesterday. As well as all this we are treated to the best of the rest with at least one track from all the finalists. The highlight of the video though is undoubtedly what was considered by most the best show of the series - the Big Band Show. From which we are spoilt with every performance. As well as the music there's the best of the judges comments, from the scathing to the praising, and the lovable Geordie pair of Ant and Dec get their fair share of screen time too. Even Simon Cowell couldn't doubt the quality of this! Brilliant!
Pop Idol, A Star Is Born is a great buy!!! March 14, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Pop Idol, A star is born, is a chance to relive some of the fantastic performances in the final ten weeks of the tv show that has gripped the nation. See Will, Gareth, Darius, Zoe and the rest of the pop idols perform infront of live audiences and listen to the judges' comments, good or bad. Watch hilarious sketches by the geordie duo, Ant and Dec - the one following Pete and Simon's fallout and Dec's ridiculously funny impression of Simon in his high wasted trousers. This video may help fill the gap that has been left since the programme finished and is a great buy for Pop Idol fans nationwide.
The answer to Pop Idol/Will Young/Gareth withdrawal symptoms March 15, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
All Will and Gareth's songs in one place. You can't get them anywhere else. Includes Will's 'Light My Fire' and 'Ain't No Sunshine'. It's a compilation of the best moments of the final 10 Pop Idol contestants so the highlights of each of the other 8 are also there. All the material comes from the shows, nothing new, but it's differently cut and put together to tell the story as we now know it with the benefit of hindsight. It hits the spot, fills the gap and shows how staggeringly well Will sang throughout the final stages. Any of his performances would stand the test of time, a long time. A real pleasure.
Pop Idol AddictsThis Is A Must! March 22, 2002 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This video gives you a chance to recap those unforgettable performances from gareth and will! And not forgetting Zoe's unbelievable performance with the big band. Also the argument between Simon Cowell and Pete Waterman! This video is brilliant for Pop Idol addicts!
An absolute "must have" April 8, 2002 morannon6@aol.com (Cornwall) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This video is a fantastic reminder of the Pop Idol phenomenon we all watched and became enthralled with. I was lucky enough to have seen the final ten in Manchester on 30th March (my 45th birthday!) and anybody who calls themselves a fan, must buy this video. William shines out as a superstar and the performances of the other nine are equally brilliant (bar one .. you'll know when you watch it!) It is beautifully put together with all the best moments, including the judges greatest comments and Ant Dec doing it as only they can. It'll have you re-living every delicious moment and at the end of it you'll be reaching for the rewind button to start all over again. It has become my most treasured possesion!
