4 out of 5 stars Hard Cash - DVD   July 16, 2002

Despite never having heard of this film, I picked it up because of the cast, and the plot. pChristian Slater plays a very laid back thief, and Val Kilmer is the, slightly mad, FBI Agent (reminding me somewhat of Chevy Chase). They play off each other brilliantly, with Slater organising everything and trying to make both the crooks and Kilmer happy, but always at the disadvantage. The young actress who plays Slater's daughter is also very well cast, and she brings real emotion to the story, ensuring that Slater does the 'right thing' in the end. pThe screenplay is interlaced with both amusing and somewhat gorey incidents, but neither is overplayed. pThe only downside of the movie is that the car chase scenes and scenes in the boat, near the end, are so obviously being filmed from a trailer. This was a real shame, as it detracted from the plot, and made the film seem amateurish.pGernerally a good view, which keeps your interest throughout, as you're never quite sure who knows what about whom, or who trust who, until the very end.

There is only one way that I can recomend this film. If you have a collection of the worst movies ever made then this will make your top ten. From the start of the movie you get the feel that something is wrong. From the writing to the acting nothing clicks. The car chase scenes are so bad I was in tears just laughing at how terrible they were. If you want something good, DO NOT GET THIS. If for some reason you do watch this film, make sure that you look at the end credits and see if you can see where it was made by the names of the crew. The letter V seems to be common.
