Editorial Reviews: Amazon.co.uk Review IThe Best of Mike Myers/I is a compilation of sketches from his six seasons on the American show ISaturday Night Live/I, and features the star in his pre-IAustin Powers/I days appearing in various garbs and characters, though not as Powers himself. There are, however, two IWayne's World/I segments, Myers' other great cinematic triumph (in collaboration with Dana Carvey), in which he plays the zonked-out heavy-metal dude who presents a cable show from his basement. One features Aerosmith guesting, waylaid by Wayne's mum and given the tour of the house, or "walk of shame"; the other has Madonna, in a parody of her IIn Bed With.../I era. p Other characters include Sprockets, a stern and Teutonic techno-obsessed host, and Lothar of the Hill People, an ancient chieftain. Considering he is Liverpool-born, Myers is happy to peddle some curious American stereotypes of the British: that they have bad teeth, as in the "Hedley Wyche" sketch ("one tube lasts a lifetime") or that they all behave like characters from a Terry-Thomas movie. Among the featured guests in these sketches are Steve Martin, Tom Hanks (as Aerosmith's roadie), Nicole Kidman as a six-year-old girl, Roseanne Barr and Danny DeVito. Sometimes, as is ISNL/I's wont, the sketches go on several minutes too long and lack sharpness, while the star guests don't always put in Oscar-winning performances. Ricks (New Braunfels, TX USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful Before Mr. Myers made it big in the UK with such movies and Austin Powers and Wayne's World etc... he was a regular player in the American T.V. comedy Sketch Show Saturday Night Live. This best of version DVD has a great collection of his best characters! You'll see his original Wayne's World sketch (with guest stars Aerosmith and Madonna) and his ever popular character Linda Richman- where he plays the New York Jewish Mother talk show host (a portrayal of his REAL mother-in-law!!). Mike Myers was one of the most popular comics to appear on SNL and now you'll be able to see why! It's so hilarious, you'll want to watch it again and again! Share it with friends! pI would recommend this DVD to any fan of Mike Myers who wants to see where he got his big break, or to anyone who enjoys live comedy. This is why Mike Myers is so loved! August 18, 2008 Ed O'Meara (London, UK) I had high expectations of this DVD, but found it patchy. Of course, that's usually the way of SNL in general but for one of the world's highest paid comics it is something of an irregularity. For better watching character comedy check out the likes of Paul Whitehouse in Help.
