Editorial Reviews: Amazon.co.uk Review Innocuous, innocent and somewhat idiotic, Disney's bubbleheaded road-movie comedy IBubble Boy/I plays as a farcical remake of the 1976 cult TV-movie melodrama IThe Boy in the Plastic Bubble/I. Jake Gyllenhaal is the good-hearted innocent raised in a sort of human Habitrail of plastic rooms and rubber tunnels. To win back the girl of his dreams (Marley Shelton), he steps out of his indoor greenhouse and into a homemade Ziplock bubble suit. It's the usual story: naive innocent bounces down the highway like a beach ball with legs and wins over the wacky supporting cast of soft-hearted bikers, zombie-like teenage cultists and orphaned "freaks" through purity and pluck. The premise wears thin after a while, but Gyllenhaal keeps the film bounding along with goofy innocence and energetic eagerness. Swoosie Kurtz costars as his religious-zealot clinging mom. June 11, 2003 5 out of 7 found this review helpful Bubble boy, I watched it just because of Jacob Gyllenhaal - and was pleasantly surprised. The usual teen movie I suppose but a better sense of humour - not sex orientated for most of it. It's about time we learnt there were funnier things. There's a really funny moment when hes on the back of a motorbike and he asks to go faster and the driver's like - oh u like the feel of the wind in your hair, and bubble boy's in a huge bubble!! And then he says o yeah, and shakes his head as if the wind's in his hair - oh just thinking of it makes me happy. Really catchy tune in it too! This is a not take to heartor serious film if your looking for that. its a journey of a guy thatlives in a bubble and was kept secret from the worlds truths by his overprotective mother, but when he finally meets someone who has an affect onhis life, when she leaves for her wedding in niagra falls,he knows that hehas to get her back so he goes on a road trip to stop her. along the wayhe meets some freaky friends who all try and help him or in some caseskidnap him, but all in a brillant film. i give it 8/10 well worth yourmoney of your into comedys.
