Amazon.co.uk Review If there's a problem with IMTV Yoga/I it's not so much that yoga purists will be horrified by its presentation as a pop-tastic work-out, but that the MTV formula is not as in-your-face as might be expected from the station that specialises in pounding music, hip presenters, fast talking and even faster editing. Instead popular New York yoga instructor Kristin McGee goes for a straightforward, no-nonsense approach, doing away with any superfluous chatting, keeping the emphasis on the series of dynamic flowing postures and the breathing. (Though beginners might be hard pushed to make sense of a session that goes straight into the sun salutation sequences.) The detailed breakdown of poses at the end could have been made more useful, but by way of compensation the main session is enjoyable and energetic. p More experienced and older yoga fans are not likely to object to this dynamic form of Yoga, but will doubtless prefer a longer, deeper approach (the Yoga programme comes in at under 40 minutes.) With a soundtrack by musician/DJ BT, McGee's routine is likely to hit the spot for the clubbing set. The only unnecessary element is host Lori Trespicio who makes Geri Halliwell look and sound like a rocket scientist. --ILorna V/I

Wonderfully strengthening, toning AND empowering!!! February 26, 2003 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is a great DVD. I used to practise Yoga at a well known North London centre but it became too expensive so I had to give it up. Then I recently thought of buying a DVD to practise at home. I started with Geri Halliwell's latest, which is also very good, but as I like to practise in the morning; MTV Yoga ia ideal. It is only 45 minutes long but it feels very thorough. The series of postures are very flowing, which really helps, and you can feel yourself progressing fairly quickly - which is really quite empowering.brIt totally sets you up for the day, you feel all stretched out and you notice the difference in your posture and the way you hold yourself. After 2 months of practising almost every morning (combined with a balanced diet) I am starting to see the reults, something that hasn't ever really happend with other exercise routines - I can't wait to see where I am come summertime! brThe best thing about it is it really doesn't feel like too much of an effort - like going to the gym - but once you're doing it and afterwards, you can really feel your body working and strengthening. It's also done wonders for my attitude; I am a lot calmer and chilled out that I used to be, and happier in general.brI would advise going to a few classes if you're new to Yoga however, because I think it is important to get some one on one advise to make sure you are doing the postures correctly.brThere is a small section at the end where Kristen demonstrates a few of the postures though. On the whole Kristen is a great teacher too. She has a very gentle voice and she keeps you focused on what you're doing the whole way through, and anyone who can look good in a lycra cat suit must be doing something right!!brBUY IT, you won't regret it.
Great great video March 5, 2003 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
My experience in yoga consists in few classes and Barbara Currie tapes. MTV yoga is better than any of this. If I compare it with the classes I took, it's more compact (about 40 minutes workout) and makes you sweat more, plus the music is cool. Compared to Barbara Currie... Well, Barbara always sticks her shoulders up in her ears, while the instructor of MTV yoga visibly has much better posture and better cuing and much less annoying voice and blabering. I think MTV yoga is probably more like power yoga. It goes through less poses than some of the Barbara Currie tapes, but the poses flow and the breathing is better explained, and the rythm and the amount of time you hold the poses really make you work-out and sweat (at least it made me sweat). definitely a tape I keep coming back to. Can't wait for more!
Absolutely wonderful for mind and body March 17, 2003 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I really don't care what purists might say about this video: I love it. If you don't want the hip music and only want to hear the instructor, there's an option where you can switch it off. And nobody can say anything negative about the skills of Kristin Mcgee. She has a very nice voice and is calm and very concentrated on the practice. She also constantly reminds you when to breathe and when to do which pose, so it's very easy to follow without looking at the screen. I wouldn't recommend it for absolute beginners though, it helps if you've had a few (power)yoga lessons. After doing this 45-minute routine I felt invigorated and inspired. The only negative thing about this dvd is that the relaxation at the end is rather short.
Fab yoga workout January 15, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is by far my favourite yoga workout of several DVDs purchased. The quality of teaching is excellent: advanced, intermediate and beginners modifications are clearly explained for each posture. The workout is fast-paced (so yes some familiarity with dynamic yoga would be a good idea)and the length of DVD (45 mins) makes it an easy workout to do on a daily basis. I found the music disappointing on first listen but have come to really enjoy it. brMy one criticism of the DVD is the quadricep stretch (after pigeon pose) is only done on the left hand side. Given the size of the muscles being worked in this pose this is quite a critical omission - particularly if (like some of the reviewers here) you are doing the workout everyday.brI highly recommend pausing the DVD after the second pigeon pose (floor work - left leg bent and forward, right leg extended straight behind you, upper torso bent over front leg to floor)to complete the counter quadricep stretch for the right leg (sit up, bend right (behind you) leg up, catch with right hand and bring right shoulder back around to the front). It is well demonstrated when it is done on the right hand side so is easy to replicate.brOther than that I highly recommend buying this DVD - it will quickly become the fave in your collection.
Fresh and Funky, Work it Baby Work it! December 17, 2002 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
MTV YOGA.pRegular exercise for me is a sprint for the bus down Oxford Street or carrying bags of heavy shopping home from Safeway's. The plain truth is for me, like most working urbanites, frequenting the gym seems like punishment. pI've often had the aspiration to take up yoga as a more harmonious option to body-pumping workouts or early morning runs around the park, but never seem to have had the time or energy to research local classes. Then the answer arrived on my desk in the elegant and unassuming form of MTV YOGA. Don't be put off by the MTV association, this is not YOGA for the channel surfing generation. But rather an invigorating and stylishly produced yoga-cise video, with a funky New York soundtrack. pOften the problem with contemporary urban lifestyle is the energy zapping pace it consumes for daily survival. MTV YOGA is a way to relax and re-energise within the privacy of your own home, using classic yoga routines, like the sun salutation to a rousing soundtrack that transports you into the zone. The more advanced techniques are helpfully broken down into segments, which means you don't attempt to contort your body into complicated postures straight away. Often the problem with exercise videos is the boredom factor, of re-repeating the same moves day after day. MTV YOGA avoids this fate by completely transforming the genre into a total audio-visual sensation. Filmed on location at Man Ray - an exotic bar with a sumptuous chinoiserie interior - and taught by Kristin McGee, the former instructor for the Sex in the City gals, MTV YOGA captures the glamour of New York. In this context, it's not too hard to believe that a new body and new mental attitude is easily attainable
