Amazon.co.uk Review One of TV's more interesting tough-girl action shows, IDark Angel/I is a distinctive blend of the personal, the adventurous and the politically aware. Cocreators James Cameron (yes, that James Cameron) and Charles Eglee present a complex scenario of biological super-science and social collapse in which their gene-manipulated heroine and hacker/journalist hero can genuinely make a difference. In this first series they also provide an adversary who is a lot more than just a conventional villain. p Jessica Alba is impressive as Max, bred and trained as a super-soldier but reclaiming her individual humanity; Michael Weatherly is scruffily attractive as Eyes Only, who sits semi-paralysed in his eyrie above Seattle uncovering crime, corruption and other skulduggeries and sending the woman whom he hopelessly loves out on deadly errands. Jon Savage has real authority as Lydeker, a man who has stretched his conscience to breaking point, but is not personally corrupt. Some of the best episodes here--"Prodigy" for example--are ones in which Lydeker and Max are forced into temporary alliance. Early on the relationship between Max and the other workers at Jam Pony--the courier firm that provides her with a cover identity--is a little forced, but later on the two parts of Max's life are more successfully integrated: "Shorties in Love", for example, is a genuinely touching tale about Diamond, the doomed criminal ex-lover of Max's lesbian roommate. IDark Angel/I was never a perfect show, but at its occasional best it manages to be simultaneously funny and dramatic. p BOn the DVD:/B IDark Angel, Series 1/I's Region 2 DVD is ungenerous with special features, providing only short interviews with James Cameron and Charles Eglee and with the stars, and giving us a preview of the IDark Angel/I computer game. The episodes are presented in widescreen and have excellent Dolby Digital sound which gives vivid presence to both the dialogue and the hard-driving contemporary rock score that is part of the show's style. --IRoz Kaveney/I

Much more than sci-fi June 26, 2003 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
When friends of mine told me they were into a sci-fi series called Dark Angel I was not really interested but I only had to watch one episode before I was compleately addicted. This series goes far beyond your average sci-fi, girl kicks ass show. Its blend of action, humour and warmth coupled with a gripping, conceivable storyline, fantastic characters and quality acting (especially Jessica Alba) ensures a series that has something for everyone. Such a crime that it was discontinued.
Dark Angel...a Series Made in the Heavens... December 15, 2002 Jordyn (USA) 74 out of 87 found this review helpful
Dark Angel, directed by james Cameron, was a hit show on TV that was discontinued after its second season. Many fans were sad, and some outraged, that such a wonderful show was taken off air. Now you can enjoy season 1 of Dark Angel in your home, whenever you would like to view it. Dark Angel is about Max, (played by Jessica Alba) a girl whose genes are genetically altered when she is born, along with hundreds of others. The whole process took place at a building called Manticore, in which the "transgenics" were to be trained as soldiers of war, being that they could do things normally impossible. Max was one of the best of these transgenics, but she was very smart and independent. She lived at Manticore until she and some others escaped into the world. As the transgenics are trying to search for themselves, Manticore is searching for them. Max is all grown up, and she meets Logan, a man that is also known as "Eyes Only", for he works secretly in Seattle, exposing criminals to the public. Together they do incredible things, and Max begins to figure out who she really is. The problem is, Manticore is tracking her down, as well as some other enemies she makes with each episode. pDark Angel is one of those rare series that comes once in a while. It never should have been canceled, but it was, and we are lucky to have the show released. The DVD and videos might be flying off the shelves, because it is such a wonderful hit by James Cameron. Anyone who thinks this sounds interesting should get themselves a copy, for they will be doing themselves a great favor. Dark Angel is a wonderful, thrilling series that is adventure mixed with excitement, a little bit of sci-fi, and enjoyment. Enjoy Dark Angel season 1 today, for it is a series made in the heavens.

Absolutely compulsive viewing and up there with the best of the US fantasy series (at least as good as Buffy, and probably in many ways better than Angel and Taken). Complex and fascinating. You won't regret investing in both seasons. The only downer - what happened in Terminal City after they axed the series?? We should be told!! (it's a conspiracy?)
Dark Angel is Devilishly Fun December 15, 2002 Jordyn (USA) 39 out of 51 found this review helpful
Dark Angel, the hit TV series by James Cameron, was discontinued after its second season, much to the fans' dismay. You see, this whole show was so popular, and it was so amazing, that everyone loved it. The DVD is an excellent buy for anyone into action/adventure/scientific sort of shows or movies. Dark Angel is about a girl named Max (played by Jessica Alba), who was genetically altered along with her friends. They were to be soldiers, until one night she and her friends all escaped from Manticore, the place they were kept. Manticore is still searching for them, while they are searching for themselves, to find out what destiny has in store for them. It leads to much more powerful and entertaining episodes, and Dark Angel is a real wonderful show. Anyone who even thinks it might be worth a rental should buy it, because, being that the show was so great, i am sure the copies will be flying off the shelves. Follow this advice: get your copy!!! Dark Angel is a rare series that you will want to watch over and over again. Enjoy!!!
Angel of the best sort June 16, 2003 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought that this would be something similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel when I started to watch it, but I was pleasantly surprised! This is a kick-ass programme, with an ideal heroine. It features a startling representation of what the world could turn out like in the near future, and the idea of there being genetically modified people amongst us is fascinating. It takes science-fiction and reality, blends them together in a mix that would be thought to be risky at the least, and throws out a stunning group of people and a storyline to astound the viewer and make them think!
