Amazon.co.uk Review
Nine years is a long time for any group of IFriends/I to stick so closely together, but somehow the gang are still as daftly charming as ever. After the birth of Emma, Rachel comes to terms with being a mother surprisingly well. It's how everyone else deals with it that makes things interesting. Joey's accidental proposal creates weird friction between him and Ross, who breaks his finger throwing the show's first ever punch. Monica becomes desperately broody and attempts all manner of convoluted ways of persuading Chandler (unfortunately he inadvertently bankrupts them in a move to Tulsa). Phoebe, on the other hand, occupies herself in the dating game, holding on to Mike (Paul Rudd) in the longest guest star relationship anyone's ever had. Other surprise guests this year include Freddie Prinze Jr as an overly sensitive nanny (in the 200th episode), Christina Applegate as another of Rachel's sisters and Jeff Goldblum playing himself on the set of another movie on which Joey is trying to get a break. p As always the sparks occasionally fly between Rachel and Ross, while the others manage to strain their own relationships to the max. The real reason for watching now is the one-off kooky scenarios in which they--or rather Joey--get into. His endless dating finally sees him stuck for remembering if he's already slept with a girl; he botches an attempt at eyebrow waxing; and he manages to make Chandler think that Monica wants a breast enhancement. A 10th series and potential movie spin-off were announced well before the year was over, meaning six very rich actors will be supplying the fun for some time yet to come. --IPaul Tonks/I

This is a great series and a must have for any true fan of 'Friends'. Anyone who may believe that the series has started to lose some of its original charm, should purchase these gems of episodes right now and prepare themselves to stand corrected. Although previous seasons may have shown some wear, for example the sometimes ridiculous humour in series six did start to question the show's staying power, series nine shows that with a few changes made here and there to support each character's persona (i.e. New Born Emma, or Pheobe's great new boyfriend, played by the ever fantastic Paul Rudd), Friends does have the ability to bounce back in full glory. My only complaint is of the recent rumours that this series is to be the last. Some series should continue until there is truly no hope of the show being as fun and refreshing as it was when it started. Yet series nine of 'Friends' only goes to show that there is life in this great story yet.

This dvd contains episodes 5-8 of what has turned out to be one of the best series of Friends yet. This dvd contains the following episodes:brThe One with Phoebe's Birthday Dinner: Phoebe and Joey struggle to keep their table at a fancy restaurant, with the others late for Phoebe's birthday dinner. Rachel's late because she doesn't want to leave Emma with a babysitter, Monica and Chandler are arguing about Chandler smoking.pThe One With The Male Nanny : Ross is not comfortable with Emma's new nanny's (guest starFreddy Prinze Jr.) sensitivity. Meanwhile, Phoebe has to choose between two boyfriends and Chandler is feeling threatened when Monica tells him that one of her new colleagues is a really funny guy.pThe One With Ross's Inappropriate Song: Chandler goes with Joey, when he goes to view Monica's former boyfriend, Richard's, apartment, which is up for sale. However, they find an old video that seems to feature Monica having sex with Richard. Meanwhile Ross and Rachel are shocked to discover that they must sing a suggestive song to make baby Emma laugh...pThe One With Rachel's Other Sister: Rachel's self-centred sister (Christina Applegate) ruins the friends Thanksgiving dinner with her uncensored observations. Meanwhile Monica obsessively protects her good wedding china and Joey forgets to join his television cast mates in the big Thanksgiving parade.

It's in this DVD that series nine really becomes funny. It contains episodes 5,6,7 8 from the ninth season. The One With Phoebe's Birthday Dinner in which everybody but Joey fails to show up on time to Phoebe's Birthday Dinner. Rachel fears she can't leave Emma and Monica and Chandler are busy making a baby. The One With The Male Nanny where Rachel hires a male nanny (Freddie Prinze Jnr) but Ross believes he's too sensitive, The One With Ross's Inapproiate Song where Ross sings the lyrics to Baby Got Back to make Emma laugh and The One With Rachel's Other Sister where Rachel's rude second sister (Christina Applegate) comes to Rachel for a hair straightner and ends up having a catfight because Ross and Rachel won't give Emma to her if they die. This DVD is one of the best out of the three released so far and although the show's been going for nine years it's definitely still original and funny beyond belief. (PS. For all you die hard Friends fans don't fear. I know series nine was originally going to be the last series but the six stars have signed on to do a tenth series and a movie)

5 out of 5 stars Best video is series 9!   August 23, 2003

In series 9, Friends is back on top form, after many hardcore fans were left disapointed by the 8th series. The four episodes on this video, are the favourites of the series. brIn TOW Phoebe's birthday dinner, Phoebe makes reservations at a fancy restaraunt for her birthday, and all 6 friends are due to be there. However as Phoebe and Joey struggle to keep the table from being taken, the other 4 friends are absent from the restaraunt. After panicking about leaving their new baby Emma alone, Rachel and Ross get locked out of their apartment. Meanwhile ). They finally arrive, With Rachel's mum watching Emma by the bar, and Monica and Chandler still bickering, Phoebe finally yells at them all, before apologising and leaving to be with boyfriend Mikep TOWT Male Nanny, Rachel and Ross still desperatly searching to find a nanny for Emma, their new baby, finally find someone Rachel thinks is perfect, Sandy (Freddie Prince Jr). Howver Ross has issues with hiring a man as a nanny, esspecially someone as sensitive as Sandy, Joey however is also a big fan of the new nanny. Meanwhile Chandler fresk out when Monica exclaimes her no co-worker is 'the funniest guy she's ever met' and then Monica is left to do some damage control by over exageratedly laughing at all Chandler's jokes.p TOW Ross's inapproriate song, Ross discovers that singing 'Baby Got Back' to Emma makes her laugh, however Rachel is not pleased. Later, however, in a desperate attempt to see Emma laugh she also sings the song. Joey looks around Richard's apartment, which is for sale, with Chandler and they find a tape with Monica's name on it. Chandler steals the tape, and get's Joey to watch it for him, when Monica walks in.p TOW Rachel's other sister, in this episode, said to be the funniest in the series, Christina Applegate turns up as Amy, Rachel's other sister, on Thanksgiving. Christina gives a hilarious performance as the self-centered, immature, obnoxious Amy, who Rachel invites to Monica's thanksgiving dinner, where she is using her wedding china, which she wishes people to be careful with, in her obsessive Monica way. Meanwhile Phoebe tries to help Joey out as he needs a lie as to why he never turned up to be in his TV show's parade float. A story starts about who would get Emma if Ross and Rachel were to die, and Rachel and Amy get in a fight, breaking one of Monica's plates. Hilarious chaos follows. You should watch this episode. Brilliant!
