5 out of 5 stars a man a boy and a war   November 21, 2006

There have been very few films covering the "war" in Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia. Perhaps it's as well as Mankind stooped to new lows here. br / br /This wonderful film covers one moment in the fighting in Bosnia. The story of a man who goes searching for a boy in the war torn country with a view to spiriting him out of the country. For money. br / br /The two man actors are very good indeed. The boy plays a most convincing role, one I would not expect capable of for a boy of his tender years. br / br /It is a chilling story especially as the true point of it all comes out toward the end. br / br /The direction and sets are of a high standard too. A great film indeed.

5 out of 5 stars A Chilling Reminder .....   August 3, 2004

The story is a very chilling reminder of the lengths that some people will go to to save their loved ones. Chilling because it is all to real. pOf course you don't quite realise the 'plot' until the end, but as the film unfolds you get that uneasy feeling about the storyline. pFor me, the film seemed almost too real a reminder of the war in Bosnia. Emotions ran pretty high throughout the film, always willing and wanting the lead character [Bob Hoskins] to reveal some form of liking for the boy. pThis certainly is a film to be watched time and time again. You do though have to almost forget the rest of the story and concentrate on the two main characters and the roles they play.

A truely great film. The scenery is beautiful but the topic of the film is all too real. The two main characters are suberb as are the whole crew.

This is a flawed, but very memorable movie worth 90 minutes of anybody#x27;s time.pIt covers big topics - war, racial conflict, child abduction - but most important of all it is about hope and the salvation of one human being by another. pSpecial mention must be made of the child actor in the co-star role. He is one of the best I#x27;ve ever seen. His Polish nationality means it is unlikely we#x27;ll get to see him in many more films so all the more reason to enjoy this one.

4 out of 5 stars a good film   June 1, 2006

good acting good scenery good setting a roller coaster of emotional highs and lows - thats the superficial stuff out the way - br /thank god it wasnt made by hollywood or it would have been so sweetly sick br / br /the film is set in a war torn society dealing with the greed and corruption associated, money talks and life is cheap, how bad can turn to good, and the developing relationship of two very different characters at opposite ends of a spectrum br / br /deffinately reccomended for a good evenings viewing - BUT im not going to tell you how it ends so you wont know if you will be horrified or elated after watching br /
