Amazon.co.uk Review If you have a hearty appetite for fiery explosions, heavy ordnance and nonsensical mayhem, IBallistic: Ecks vs Sever/I is just for you. This mindless action flick is so wrong-headed that even its ungainly title is inaccurate: as expert assassins on the fringes of government intelligence, FBI agent Ecks (Antonio Banderas) and Defence Intelligence agent Sever (Lucy Liu) aren't battling each other at all. Instead, he's trying to find his missing ex-wife (the stunning but expressionless Talisa Soto) and young son, while she's pursuing an agency turncoat (Gregg Henry) who's stolen the ultimate micro-technology for clandestine killing. United against a common enemy, Ecks and Sever lay waste to half of Vancouver (the film's budget-conscious location), and it all makes as much sense as meatballs on a vegetarian menu. Banderas and Liu look fabulous as corpses pile up around them, but Thai action director Kaos (aka Wych Kaosayananda) must have confused his nickname with the incomprehensible plot of his movie. --IJeff Shannon/I

what a pleasant surprise April 23, 2004 J. Eccleston (UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This film crept out of nowhere - no adverts, straight to DVD/VHS, and onlythe (also good) Gameboy Advance games to even suggest that Ballistic: Ecksvs. Sever existed.brIt's surprising that this didn't get tonnes ofattention. Starring Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu, it's got the big stars, and it's certainly got the action. When I say action, I mean some of themost enjoyable action sequences I've ever seen. Guns, explosions,martial-arts, and even humour all play a part. You'll laugh out loud whenyou're not sure you should have, and you'll be glued to the screen asbullets fly (aswell as bodies) all over the place.brThat's not to saythat the rest of the film suffers. The script is very well written, withenough twists and turns to make your brain melt with confusion. There's agood deal of humour, as I've mentioned, so you'll never be bored and neverlose the plot too much.brA stunningly under-rated film this. I suggest see it now, before itbecomes a cult classic and copies are like golddust.
ballistic: ecks vs sever August 6, 2003 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a must for all action fans its filled with non stop action from wild gun fights to hand to hand combat with the sexy lucy liu leading the way. Kicking the crap out of anyone who stands in her way of getting revenge on her former boss who killed her child. Atonio banderas also has a good outing as ex fbi agent brought back to find lucy in order to find his wife he thought was dead. The plots a bit dodgy its basically revenge but the action is brilliant and lucy liu is in it what more could you want from a film
Good Saturday night stuff December 30, 2003 - alikat - (Brighton, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was very surprised by this movie actually. I rented it unsure of what to expect, I hadn't heard of it but by starring Antonio Bandreas and Lucy Lui it couldn't be all bad. What we get here is a pretty nice little gem, the story line is pretty simple, we've seen it in different guises before but it still works. This is basically an all action movie, there are lots of guns, car chases, loads of explosions, knife fighting and martial arts...what more can you ask for on a Saturday night. One for the surround sound guys - definitely does tribute to the subwoofer!
Enjoyable fluff... March 24, 2006 Mr. Jd Ware (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I shouldn't have enjoyed this film.pLet's list the bad points:brLaughably unoriginal plot about a kidnapped son, and a retired FBI agent brought back into the service to find him.brDiabolical dialogue.brOutrageous plot devices, and major continuity flaws.brDull, unispired kung fu combat scenes.brAverage acting.brIf you can understand anything Antonio Bandera's mumbles, please let me know...pBut let's get to the good points:brGuns, explosions, lots of guns, more explosions...an even bigger explosion, one huge MF gun, and even more explosions.pAnd I just sat there with a stupid big grin on my face while the fireworks went off onscreen, some huge gunfights exploded around me, and some short, but pretty nifty car chases. pAn incredibly bad film that I loved. Leave your brain at the door, and enjoy this too...!
ACTION PACKED..WELL...ACTION FILM !! !! !! !! !! March 25, 2006 M. Western (Wakefield, West yorkshire, Enagland, Eurpoe, Earth, Some random 'milky way') 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ballistic:Ecks vs Sever, besides from its ratherstrange title, is one of the best action films of its year (in my opinion). brLucy Lui and Antonio Banderas play great and very appropriate parts in this film. Along side the cool soundtrack and the intense action scenes this film is one of the best non stop action films there is. brThe story for this film is nothig we havent seen before. An ex FBI agent with a presumed dead wife has been called from retirement to fight a super assassin type woman and a guy who plans to kill lots of people with a microscopic robot (that he plans to release upon the world). So this is obviously nothing spectacular in terms of a script or story line. And many scenes are over the top in terms of bullet dodging and exploding cars which seem to fly for no reason. And on the terms of explosions, this has lots, probably the most ive ever seen in a film. brAnd if you like this sort of thing, youll probably see this to be a film adaptation of a typical shooting game for a Playstation. As i wouldnt be surprised if thats where they got most of the ideas. brThere are a couple of car/bike chases too, not brilliant but there is plently of shooting and of course explosions to acompany it. brIf you buy this film then you must like action films and preferably be a gaming mad person under the age of 15, other wise rent it first and see what you think.
