5 out of 5 stars Nostalgic Fun   April 4, 2005

Jim's passed his car onto his nephew for the final of the original four Herbie movies. Pete and his partner DJ pick up Herbie in Mexico, planning to enter in a race in Brazil. What they don't plan on is getting mixed up with a pickpocket and stow away who has befriended their car. But Paco has crossed some bad men, accidentally stealing their film, the only clue they have to the location of Inca ruins they intend to steal. Can a little car save the day again?pOk, I admit it. This is by far the weakest of the original Herbie movies. The plot is extremely far fetched with at couple of nice plot holes. So why the five stars? Because watching this movie never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's probably the one I watched the most growing up, and I just can't look at it with a critical eye. Beside, any car that would take on an airplane, and win, is ok by me.pThe DVD leaves a little to be desired as well. Presented in full frame instead of wide screen, it's a movie only release.pThis movie is best viewed through rose-colored glasses of childhood. Don't think about it too critically, or you'll find its flaws. Just sit back and let Herbie take over.

The herbie series is excellent, but this one tops the whole lot, it is entertaining, funny and you'll love it

3 out of 5 stars Second-rate sequel   May 4, 2004

Passable movie, but not a patch on "The Love Bug" (the first in the Herbie series of movies). Everyone's favorite little racing car does no racing at all, and our hero (or at least the human hero) is a young pickpocket - I have trouble explaining to my 4-year-old how someone who steals wallets can be The Good Guy.pAs is often the case with sequels, in order to avoid re-hashing the plot of previous movies they have come up with one that is nothing to do with the original premise (racing). Instead, Herbie foils the attempts of The Bad Guys to steal some ancient Inca treasurs - but this change in plot inevitably detracts focus from Herbie himself (who's even had a name change!).pStill, if you've already got the other 3 in the collection and enjoyed them (or at least your kids have), then you might as well add this one too. Otherwise, follow the rule that, with (almost) any series of films, the earlier ones are the better ones!
