| Customer Reviews: FABULOUS BRITISH CLASSIC FROM 1971! March 16, 2009 FAMOUS NAME (UNITED KINGDOM) br /Better known to us Brits as 'Blind Terror'.
br /
br /This was one of two outstanding films made by Mia Farrow - the other being one she made just three years earlier in 1968 where she gave an equally outstanding performance as 'Rose' in 'Rosemary's Baby'.
br /
br /Whilst not a huge fan of Farrow, one has to hand it to her for giving it her 100% in terms of talent. In this British classic from 1971, she gives an award-wining performance as the innocent blind girl who becomes the victim of a family massacre whilst convalescing at her aunt and uncle's large manor house. The suffering of her character's plight can only be likened to that of pulling the wings off a butterfly...
br /
br /I'm in constant admiration of any American actor who can do a convincing British accent without any flaws. Very few can do this - it is extremely difficult, but Farrow here pulls it off with amazing accuracy!
br /
br /This was one of those movies that had immense impact on anyone who saw it at the time, and subsequently well-remembered. It was also from a period in British movie-making when at its best in this particular genre.
br /
br /Also stars Paul Nicholas (one could never think quite the same of him ever again after this!) and a young and extremely handsome Michael Elphick.
br /
br /Not to be missed!
Blind Terror December 12, 2006 Honest John (Surrey, England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I first saw this movie when it was released around 35 years ago. I'm sure that, at that time, it was called "Blind Terror" which, to my mind is actually a better title and more aptly describes the situation in the story. My wife had never seen it so I bought it and, sure enough, it had her sitting on the edge of her seat shouting out "oh no", "look out" and putting the sofa cushions up to her face as the unsuspecting blind heroine's ordeal seemed to go from bad to worse.
br /
br /The film is well made, with a plausible storyline, and with the suspense carried through right to the end. Mia Farrow is excellent and very convincing as the main character.
br /
br /The downside (and the reason for giving 4 stars rather than 5) is that the filming, the background music and, of course, the fashions, are decidedly dated now. However, if you can see past this, and if you enjoy a good psychological thriller, this is as good as any and well worth watching.
Blind Terror February 16, 2007 A. K. Taylor (Woking, Surrey United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was indeed entitled "Blind Terror" during its initial run, and it is indeed an apt title, much better than "see no evil" at conveying the content of the film. It doesn't depend on blood and gore for its thrills, its more psychological. Mia Farrow does an excellent job of conveying real horror on her face as she stumbles on different horrors in what she thinks is an empty house. The suspense is built up slowly for the viewers as they can see what Mia cannot. All you see of the perpetrator is cowboy boots and jeans. He apparently got the hump because the houseowner accidently splashed some dirty water on his nice new clean boots when driving past.
