Amazon.co.uk Review The frantic pacing of IBig Trouble/I is surely intentional, but the movie leaves you wanting more of... something. Not more characters--it's got plenty of those--but more room for them to breathe in a top-heavy plot that recalls IGet Shorty/I (also directed by Barry Sonnenfeld) without reaching those heights of ingenuity. Based on the bestseller by syndicated IMiami Herald/I columnist Dave Barry, this Miami-based mayhem bears the distinct imprint of Barry's humour, in which absurdities pile up like rush-hour traffic, involving a former journalist (Tim Allen) connected by circumstance to a wealthy schemer (Stanley Tucci), his bored wife (Rene Russo), Russian mobsters, mismatched cops (Janeane Garofalo, Patrick Warburton), power-crazed FBI agents (Heavy D, Omar Epps), a Frito-loving drifter (Jason Lee), cretinous criminals (Tom Sizemore, Johnny Knoxville), and a gigantic toad that shoots hallucinogenic saliva. Culminating in an airport bomb smuggling (prom! pting the film's delayed release after the tragedy of September 11, 2001), IBig Trouble/I needs the brilliant cohesion of IDr Strangelove/I; what it gets is Sonnenfeld's knack for sustained chaos, and a few decent belly laughs. --IJeff Shannon/I

This star packed movie is non stop action. You will not find one cliché or un-original thought in this movie. There is no way to anticipate the plot.

br /Actually it is like reading a Dave Berry novel; that could be because the story was based on one. As with all his works it starts off reasonable builds up to incredulous and then over the top. You are carried along with out even realizing it.
br /
br /The story starts off with many overlapping threads. We have a young hit man from school out to get a school girl all wet. There is an unscrupulous character (Stanley Ticci) with a graphic (close your eyes) toe (belonging to Sofía Vergara) fetish. The mother (Rene Russo) goes down of the would-be hit man. The television is shot. Nina meets her maker Puggy. The dog finds aromas. Need I say more?
br /
br /O.K. there is a frog, goats, and a portable garbage disposal.
br /
br /On a deeper level it is about families and trust. But don't mind that now just sit back and have some fun

Excellant but not developed January 22, 2004 Hannah Probert (Bucks., England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an excellant film, which was absolutely hilarious. This is the sort of film for you if you like madcap comedy like Rat Race or Fawlty Towers. Despite this, the film seemed a little to short and perhaps slightly unfinished.
Entertaining if sometimes a bit absurd October 6, 2004 Tim Houghton (Stavanger Norway) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've seen Big Troubles several times now and put it on when I want to watch something that's amusing without too much thought required. The pace, one-liners and cast of characters is as rich as you'd expect from Hollywood. I think it helps that I'm a bit of a Tim Allen fan, although Stanley Tucci is the star of the film when it comes to a totally over the top crook. The foot fetish scene is so ucky it's brilliant. The two assassins from Chicago hilarious in their utter disdain for the state of Florida. I find the film funny without being too silly (a common complaint for other hollywood parodies) and although not a classic it's an entertaining way to spend 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Plays like Rat Race.... October 31, 2003 This movie plays like It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, or its recent ripoff, Rat Race, with a huge cast of characters (mostly paired in twos) related by one object. The difference is that instead of money, the object of their obsession is an extremely harmful thing-but only some of the characters know that. Its brisk pace and hilarious characterizations are underscored by the frenetic music of James Newton Howard, and there is no mistaking the ascerbic wit of author Dave Barry.pBig Trouble was originally scheduled for a fall 2001 release; you'll know why it was postponed when you see the airport sequence. Although it would undoubtedly have done better with its original release date (that is, if the events of September 11th had never happened), it's definitely worth a look while it lasts
Good fun, if a little too frantic.... May 25, 2006 Dino Amore' (Hadleigh, Essex) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having read the original Dan Barry novel, which is superb and highly recommended, I had high hopes for this, considering an excellent cast and director. Although I enjoyed the film, I was left feeling it could have been better. Parts of the book are left out, good ones at that, which seems a little strange when the running time is just about 1 hour 20 mins. Extra time could have been used to flesh out the characters, who to be honest, are pretty much blank canvases to hang plot points on.
br /Having said that, its an enjoyable, turn your brain off film, that has kept the spirit of Dan Barry's book, if not the heart and soul. Nice turns from most of the cast. Final verdict - rent, don't buy.
