5 out of 5 stars Excellent   January 4, 2006

I was VERY apprehensive about renting this DVD.I thought it was going to be another typical, boring, lazy, Hollywood going through the motions chic flic rom-com.It proved to be anything but.The acting is universally excellent, the script intelligent,there#x27;s fantastic Texas scenery and it#x27;s laugh out loud funny at times e.g. the two incompetent desert thieves or Joline#x27;s unusual use of a banana after discovering her husband#x27;s infidelity.Oh the soundtrack by Calexico is tremendous also.So do yourself a favour and rent this DVD.

The film isn't that great to be honest. You are probably wondering why I have given it a five star rating. This is for one reason and one reason only, GORAN VISNJIC!!! He is very hot in this film but a little weird. Watch this movie only for him.

A real laid back story with a cool soundtrack and gorgeous men to boot! (Goran Visjnic is soooo sexy!)An unusual story with a feel good factor, it's definitely worth a watch. I thoroughly enjoyed the location shots in the desert (there's a definate Jim Morrison vibe about some scenes!) It is one to watch when you need a little pick-up to make you feel better when life gets you down. This film would rate as one of my all time faves for a night in with the girls. A very under-rated movie. Ten out of ten.

3 out of 5 stars All over the place...but Heather Graham charms...   July 25, 2009
Chintan Nanavati (Staffs, United Kingdom)
Well, gosh, there's a much better film in here struggling to get out. The dialogue is mostly half-baked, the screenplay is overly juvenile and it's all a bit too self-consciously kooky and quirky. And interest only really picks up once the film shifts its focus to Texas. But even then, we have to contend with the sight of such indie-A-listers as Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo and Luke Wilson in underwritten roles giving underpowered performances. (See Gone, Baby, Gone!/The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, You Can Count on Me and The Royal Tenenbaums for some examples of that trio's true acting chops.) And, overall, Committed reminded me of The Darjeeling Limited (which is a far funnier, better-acted and more believable piece of work.) br /But in spite of all these negatives, the one thing that saves this movie from complete ruin is the totally committed, engaging and unique performance of Heather Graham. She is a mesmerizing screen presence - you simply don't want to miss a second when she is onscreen. This film, this story really don't deserve a performance of this calibre. But they have it anyway and I'll be watching Heather Graham's career a lot closer from now on. I vaguely remember her being very watchable in one of the Austin Powers movies, but would never have believed her possible of this. br /Kudos should also go to the writer/director for creating such a fantastic female lead role in the first place. It's a pity that pretty much everything else about the movie seems to have been a series of lazy afterthoughts.
