Amazon.co.uk Review
IA Guy Thing/I wants so desperately to be a funny thing that it turns into almost nothing at all. This movie is like an annoying party guest who won't go home, although the most loyal devotees of Julia Stiles and Jason Lee are sure to get a few good laughs. Lee is awkwardly cast (and costumed) as a husband-to-be who's about to discover he's fallen in love with the free-spirited cousin (Stiles) of his comparatively straight-laced fiancée (Selma Blair). When all the who's-who gets figured out, this decidedly unromantic comedy shifts into autopilot with Lee trapped in a rote series of compromising positions. Every outcome is telegraphed far in advance, and true love takes its course with numbing efficiency. Lee barely squeaks by with his dignity intact; the fact that Stiles emerges buoyantly unscathed is further proof that this beguiling actress is deservedly a star on the rise. --IJeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly funny.   February 24, 2007

After reading the one star review here for this film i almost never bothered but i'm so glad i did. Jason Lee (normally assosiated with Kevin Smith films) was great in the leading role and Julia Stiles (10 things i hate about you) was a pleasure to watch. Fans of Scary Movie will recognise Stiles' aggressive cop boyfriend. No boring parts, it's entertaining from the very start to the very end with some really great situation comedy. If you liked Just Friends, The Sweetest Thing, The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates etc. i'm sure you'll like this.

4 out of 5 stars Could not stop from laughing out loud   April 16, 2005

Paul Colman (Jason Lee) is reluctantly having a bachelor party. He innocently buys a bear for an inept hula girl (Julia Stiles) that was part of the entertainment. He wakes up to find her in his bead and is fiancé on the way. From there it is one situation after another and snowballs. Will he ever straiten it out with his fiancé? And what is to become of the hula girl? br /Yes the first thing you will notice is that this is formula. The whole reason we pick a genera is because we like to see variations on a formula; who can do it better and what different twist can be placed in the story and keep it on track. If this had been played with some actor that had to rely on past films reputations like Adam Sandler the film would not work. br /My favorite scene was the one where Paul (with a strait face) tells Karen that the panties (obviously used) she is holding came from a bin at a discount store. She dials up the store for verification. br /One added plus to the movie is Larry Miller as Minister Ferris who knew or suspected everything and could not tell. See him again when he can really branch out in "Radioland Murders" (1994) and "Undercover Blues" (1993). br / br /

3 out of 5 stars this is ok   January 3, 2004

Thios overall is a good film with lots of plot twists and funny scenes. This is in no way revolutionary or will get any awards - i dont tink it has neway. But it is a good way to spend 90 minutes. Something you can watch, with someone and laugh with. In one word, entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars funny from beginning to end and not gross like films such as american pie   August 31, 2008
dan the fan (england,uk)
A man is about to get married and on his stag night ends up in bed with another woman.Quite a dilemma when you see how great each of the women are but will our hero make the right decision and choose the woman who is most compatible with him.First he has to find out what makes him tick. br /A consistently funny film from beginning to end, a bit slow moving at times, but for some people who are fed up with action, action, action, this film will be a welcome break from endless turmoil.

3 out of 5 stars Not just a girl-thing   August 9, 2009
Peter Roxburgh (Dorset, UK)
I think the product description given is a little unfair. There is quite a bit more to this comedy than one can generally expect from your run of the mill romcoms these days. br / br /Sure, there aren't any sudden twists to the plot, but from a guys point of view, this romcom actually does have some of the 'com' element too it rather than just the sappy rom stuff. br / br /There are laugh-out-loud bits to it and even my wife who was desperately sick while watching it (not because of the film) managed to laugh out loud as well. br / br /It also picks up some serious issues in regards to the consequences of being stupid i.e 'sleeping' with a kiki dancer at your stag party. br / br /So if you're a guy and your girl is really wanting to watch a romcom with you and you would possibly rather spend an hour slitting your wrists, then this is going to be a good choice for you. She will enjoy it, you will laugh at some bits and also not throw up from exceess sappiness. br / br /And if you're a girl and want a fun girlies night in then this will get you all giggling a plenty.
