| Customer Reviews: Better than the original? I think so! February 17, 2004 Daniel Seymour (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Excellent sequel to the original, and also manages to be different too. Whereas the first Dundee movie was pure, light hearted comedy, 'Crocodile Dundee 2' takes on a darker and more gritty tone, with the occasional comedic scenes thrown in (especially when the action moves to Australia). I cant understand why this film always gets poor reviews, to me its the best Dundee movie and a lot, lot better than the poor 'Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles' that was to follow.
I love this film! June 28, 2009 Martin Turner (Marlcliff, Warwickshire, England) People generally say that Crocodile Dundee was a great film, and Crocodile Dundee 2 was a misguided follow-up.

br /I completely disagree.

br /The original Crocodile Dundee film was a vehicle for Paul Hogan's Foster's lager commercial persona. It had a lot of great lines (You can't photograph me with that... why, because you think it will steal your soul? ... no, you've got the lens cap on), and some great wildman in the city set pieces, but the plot was, aside from that, wafer thin. Not a problem for a romantic comedy, but clearly Paul Hogan wasn't satisfied by it.

br /Crocodile Dundee II actually ratchets the speed of the jokes up, but, generally speaking, you don't notice it because this is a thriller which stands up on its own. Fourteen minutes in, we are racing through Columbia with a man who is shortly to be dead, and from there, the tension never abates until the finale, which keeps an action twist back that had me guessing right to the end. The Hogans (who wrote it) keep the jokes flowing, but they use them to enhance the tension rather than dissipate it.

br /Sadly, Hogan never made any more films of this kind. Crocodile Dundee III, made years later, was more like a Brady Bunch excursion than this high adventure. If you really like this, and want something like it, you could do worse than trying Due South, which also puts an outdoorsman into the American metropolis, and also keeps the blend of humour and thriller just right.
Everyone watches this when it's on June 18, 2007 Matthew Mercy (Wigan, England) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of those films that I watch every time it shows up on TV. Even though it isn't as good as the first one, there is just something about this re-hashed sequel. The plot is weak but I still go along with it; the lead character has no basis in reality but I still root for him; the comedy is pretty lame but I always laugh (especially the `I don't need a gun, I've got a Donk' scene); the villains aren't memorable or scary but I still hate them, the lead actress isn't particularly fanciable but I'd still do her; and the `twist' ending is telegraphed several minutes before it happens but I still feel relived when the Aborigine says `Course not, there's Mick over there'. Crocodile Dundee II will never make anyone's favourite films list, and I certainly wouldn't put it on mine, but...well, they show Apocalypse Now, and The Searchers, and Lawrence of Arabia on TV, and though they are all classics, I don't feel I have to watch them. But I always have to watch Crocodile Dundee II.
BrendoClarke - A reluctant fan. June 12, 2006 Brendan O. Clarke (Edinburgh) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently watched (reluctantly) this movie in a friends house and i have to say i enjoyed it. It is a movie of two parts. The first part deals with Mick Dundee (Hogan) trying to rescue his missus from kidnappers in N.Y. where he endures New York street scum - drug dealers, muggers, transvestites, and prostitutes.

br /The second half (the best half) of the movie is set in the Australian outback. The action is believeable and the script is funny. Croc Dundee 2 is a timeless classic.

Surprisingly better than Croc Dundee in LA February 28, 2008 T. Williams (North West, England) The one thing that has stuck with me from this film is the 'phone call' Mick makes in the outback. It is beautiful and haunting and an image that has stayed with me . When I think of Croc Dundee I think of the beautiful cinematography in that shot. I bought it for that reason...and that it was very cheap. As for the film it is an enjoyable romp. It is not as good as the original but it is different in tone (more like romancing the stone) and I think the filmmakers should be commended fro not rehashing the original.
