5 out of 5 stars Beautiful, shame not everyone gets it.   December 9, 2005

I absolutely adored this film. The cinematography was clever, creating a disjointed feel to prevent from feeling too at ease during the film and help make it seem even more surreal. The director#x27;s vision was not to create a high-octane, fast-moving film, but a clever, complex piece which made the audience think. Three member of the cast of #x27;A Knight#x27;s Tale#x27; returned together for this film, proving that they are not one trick ponies. Sossoman was stunning as always, Ledger brooded in a much more serious role, and Addy provided welcome comic relief. Distressingly several viewers did not join in the grasp of the director#x27;s perception of the very complex and clever script. I loved it, and all those that I know personally who saw the film also loved it. It#x27;s just a real shame that not everyone really seemed to get it.

This film is a very good film and though some people on here said that there was no story line and the actors were bad I don't think there really gave the film a chance or couldn't be bothered to try and undstand.

4 out of 5 stars I Would Like to Introduce You to 'Aesthetic Sensibility'   June 11, 2006

Aesthetic Sensibility means that people find pleasure in specific genres of film because of the things that are portrayed in them. For example, people watch 'The Thing' or 'The Exorcist' because they have an aesthetic sensibility for horror. Simple isn't it? So why do so many people give 1 and 2 star ratings to "The Sin Eater" and say that it is dull and boring? Because they don't have the aesthetic sensibility for it and are not constructively critical enough to be able to accept this. The Sin Eater is not everybody's cup of tea for sure, but the performances are far from wooden. They are perfect for the type of story that this is and the fact that most of the charcaters here are priests. The basic plot line involves a priest on the hunt for a 'sin eater' who has the keys to heaven and can decide at the point of death whether or not to relive people of their sins. Ok, so it's not for eveybody, it will be attractive to people that like gothic church mysteries or to explore the possibility of secretive religious sects. The settings are very good, the tone is consistent and mood-provoking and the revelations (although not extraordinarily explosive) come at exactly the right time and you feel yourself thinking: "How did I miss that?". If you think that you are saying that the script works, and it does work very well. This is not an action film and it has probably a minimal impact on a wide audience, but for what it is and the audience it aims at "The Sin Eater" is under-rated and deserves to be seen
