Kelsey Grammer a.k.a. Fraiser Crane gives all he's got! May 6, 2003 Gertrude Perkins (Lancashire) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This classic comedy that excells all others see's John Dodge, Navy Officer desperately seeking Command of his own submarine. In their wisdom, navy officials give it to him, but it's not the kind of submarine he expected. Instead of an up to date Nuclear Fighting machine, he is given a 1956 re-commissioned Diesel Sub with a dimwitted crew and given a War game to play if he is to succeed in getting his dream boat...Will he play the game? This classic comedy cannot be equaled and is a must buy for anyone who simply enjoys a good laugh!
Excellent! November 1, 2000 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I thought this film was pure genius - it kept me laughing all the way through! Kelsey Grammer is superb as Tom Dodge, and it is good to see him in a role other than in 'Frasier' - a must-see movie!!
Superb throughout-great entertainment April 19, 2004 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
When Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) takes over as captain of his 'new' rustbucket submarine with a crew of assorted navy dropouts, he is determined to prove his value to the navy and get a proper command. The fun really begins when the war games are fixed by old adversary Admiral Graham (Bruce Dern) for him to lose spectacularly and the crew are soon close to mutiny. Each member of the crew has a unique flaw in their character which comes out in this fun-packed adventure. Don't miss a single line of this fast-paced and gripping action yarn. Very collectable. I've watched it dozens of times and keep finding new jokes I missed before... because I was laughing at the time.

For all round entertainment this film has it all, including the a - z of all the possible mis-fits you would ever want (or hope not) to be with in a submarine, an execellent storyline and superb performances by the principal actors. At last this is the one for you all time collection, watch it with a few beers, natchos and some friends. You'll be in stiches from start to finish. Well done Paramount for releasing this gem.
Absolutely hilarious June 22, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Critics didn't like it, but I did it kept me laughing from beginning to end and you never really knew what they'd do next. Perhaps we should call for a sequel and see how they'd behave in a modern sub. The acting was great and they really made you feel as if they had fun making it.
