5 out of 5 stars Comic book style   August 30, 2004

Fortunately there were only positive reviews of this product on Amazon when I decided to order it; there have since been several negative opinions expressed which would have put me off - so I'm glad my timing being good for once.brThe animation is rendered in a 2D style using 3D technology giving the series a unique look that pays homage to its comic book roots.brThe dynamic of the lead characters is probably closer to the film adaptation than the Lee/Ditko comic book cannon with leanings also toward Bendis' Ultimate series. Bendis is also heavily involved with the pilot episode.brThe voice casting is pretty good on the whole with Niel Patrick Harris in the lead role supported by Lisa Loeb and Ian Ziering as MJ and Harry. Guest voices are drawn from all over including former spidey series and an impressive MTV influenced roll call.brThe action is fast paced and more cinematic than I'd expect. Highlights for me where the Lizard episode and the pilot.pThe extras are:brAudio commentary (for all 13 episodes).brOuttake ReelbrAmazing Spider-facts (like pop up messages during the episodes if you so choose).brThree featurettesbrThe making of the seriesbrBuilding with layers - multi angle comparisonbrPhoto gallerybr3 previsualised clipsbrFilmographies.pThe commentaries are an exhaustive and sometimes exhausting technical description of the series creation and realization. Stan Lee injects a welcome dose of relative anarchy to 3 of the commentaries otherwise the commentaries are a little too focused on animation technique considering the target audience of these discs.brOn the whole a great and often spectacular addition to the long history of Spidey animation. And it's cool - so there!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Animation - A must for Spidey fans!   May 16, 2004

This is a great double dvd package containing all 13 episodes (spanning over 4 hours plus) and loads of extras. pI bought this after watching the Spider-Man 2 trailer and wanting a quick Spidey-fix. This certainly did the job! pIts absolutely fantastic, the animation is breath-taking (computer generated with an overall Manga-esq quality), the episodes are all brilliantly written and the characters are charming. pI really hope they do another season and a similar X-men version too!

5 out of 5 stars Spider-man is back....With a vengence   June 9, 2004

I was totally blown away by this series. Spidey has never looked so good. The cgi is a brill touch to the 0ld comic series. Neil Patrick Harris is great as both peter parker and of course everyone's favourite web-slinger SPIDER-MAN. I love how spidey is so sarcastic to the villians is this that sometimes it's just hilarious, just like the comic book character himself. I especially like a scene in the Tight Squeeze episode where Spider-man captures a thug and relays back through this walkie talkie "er Alexi can't come to the phone right now. He's a bit tied up at the moment but i'll be taking his place in a sec." Also the organic web shooters are included in this as they were in Sam Raimi's excellent feature film Spider-man. Lisa Loeb is cool as M.J. where as Ian Zieling (who was last seen in the 80's as Steve in Beverley Hills 90210) as great as Harry Osborn, friend to Peter and M.J. but enemy of spider-man who he blames for his father's death. (why doesn't spider-man tell him that the Green Goblin killed his father?) Along with the special guest stars which include singer/rapper Eve, James Masters (Spike form Buffy) Virginia Madsen (Candyman) Devon Sawa (Final Destination) Jeffery Combs (Re-animator) and Rob Zombie, this is truly a feast for the eyes. Too bad it's ended for the mo. If anyone knows about any more episodes or DVD's of the new series, please e-mail me at deepabyss@hotmail.com. I'd appreicate it big time.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic DVD set   April 20, 2004

Although it took me about two episodes to get into the style of animationthis set of 13 episodes of Spidey's new animated series is truly stunning.Brilliantly rendered and written the story takes up after the Movie andhas Peter Parker/Spider-man trying to juggle college, girls andcrimefighting. It's clever, smart and sassy. The character interaction iswonderful and the action set pieces are some of the best I've scene in ananimated series. But it's the writing that shines through and the humanityof the characters that keep this high flying web slinger grounded.Theextras on the DVD set are also exceptional -- An honest-to-goodnessquality product.

I LOVED every second of all 13 episodes!! I think that it is a great new series and they have updated the characters and music superbly. My favourite parts are all the fight scenes and when Spidy is swinging through the streets in 3D.I also like the fact that they show Spider-man reacting to his Spidy Sense as I found in the new movies they did not show this much at all.brI would recommend this DVD to everyone and anyone.br5 thumbs up!!!
