Amazon.co.uk Review
IStuck on You/I finds those fun-loving Farrelly Brothers in a feel-good mood, delivering a tame, kind-hearted comedy that even your grandma could enjoy. That's a big change from the seminal "hair gel" of IThere's Something About Mary/I, but the codirecting Farrellys have genuine affection for Bob and Walt (Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear), conjoined twins who are the owners and short-order cooks at a Martha's Vinyard burger joint. When amateur actor Walt decides he wants to make it in Hollywood--where he lucks into a star-making TV role with Cher (who gamely plays herself in this light Hollywood satire)--Bob has no choice but to go along. p Separation surgery is risky, so most of IStuck on You/I milks mild laughs from the brothers' intimate connection, especially when Bob finds love with a pen-pal (Wen Yann Shih) who's initially unaware of Bob's brotherly predicament. Once again, the Farrellys score big points for their progressive acceptance of differences; several minor roles are played by physically or developmentally disabled actors, and it's a consistently commendable aspect of the Farrellys' comedic worldview. Other, more conventional rewards include Eva Mendes (and her ample cleavage) as a bubbly show-biz wannabe, Seymour Cassel as Walt's old-school agent, and Meryl Streep--yes, Meryl Streep--showing good sportsmanship in a glorified cameo. IStuck on You/I is dispensable comedy, but you can't knock it for good old-fashioned brotherly love. --IJeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable movie   January 10, 2005

I don't get the mediocre reviews this has, I found it a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Funny and warm all the time, sometimes real damn funny. pA note to film makers: when you do the commentary, talk about the movie. Don't talk about the names and the families of the extras. Talk about the movie. Please.

5 out of 5 stars Gives new meaning to buddy system   January 5, 2006

The Farrelly brothers have a knack for producing films (SHALLOW HAL, DUMB AND DUMBER, KINGPIN) about awkward subjects in a manner such that they'd be taken to task for political incorrectness if the results weren't so funny.pIn STUCK ON YOU, Bo (Matt Damon) and Walt (Greg Kinnear) are the owners of a Martha's Vineyard burger joint in which they also do the cooking. This doesn't sound like the basis for much of a plot except that Bo and Walt are twins conjoined above the hip. They share a liver, most of which belongs to Bo - a situation that has so far caused them to reject the surgical separation that would perhaps endanger Walt's life. In any case, they'd decided long ago that their condition wouldn't hold them back. So, when Walt announces that he wants to go to Hollywood and become an actor, Bo decides to go along (so to speak). Of apparent benefit to Bo is that his internet girlfriend, May (Wen Yann Shih), lives in Los Angeles. There are problems though. Bo has acute stage fright, and he's never even told May that he has a brother. Walt, however, firmly believes that everything will work out. He even suggests that Bo can be his stunt double so he, Walt the Star, won't get hurt.pWhile watching this clever and highly entertaining comedy, I was impressed by the amount of movement choreography and rehearsal that must have been necessary for Damon and Kinnear to act in concert in some very intricate ways. This is apparent as we watch the twins cook-up six burgers in 3 minutes to meet their restaurant's standing promise (Food in 3 minutes, or it's free!), play baseball, ice hockey, and football, slow dance with dates, and beat up on a a group of harassers. Then there's the bit when they get into a fist fight with each other that's worth the price of admission.pSeveral screen personalities appear as themselves, most notably Cher and Meryl Streep. The former pokes great fun at her real life public persona. In my opinion, Cher is to be admired and applauded for evidently not taking herself too, too seriously. I can't imagine most of Tinseltown's prima donnas taking similar swipes at their overblown images.pAwhile ago, I saw CALENDAR GIRLS, to which I granted five stars simply because it was unpretentious, pure entertainment that left me completely satisfied and with a grin on my face. At the risk of cheapening the 5-star rating, I'm awarding STUCK ON YOU the same. It's not a great film and likely won't be nominated for any Oscars but, you know, great good fun in any form shouldn't be over-analyzed by snobbish reviewing. Life is too short.

5 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!!!!!   February 9, 2008

I normally hate so-called "funny" movies. I just don't find them funny at all. Stuck on you, though, had me in tears of laughter from the first scene and I had a sore stomach from laughing at the end. Having Greg Kinnear in one of the leading roles and I am sold. I loved his character in As Good As It Gets - he is the funniest guy and whenever I see his face i crack up! Matt Damon is not quite as funny but with his amazing acting he is great in this role. I doubt that this film would have been as funny with any other actors in these roles. There was fantastic chemistry between the two. br /This film was a perfect mix of childish funny and clever funny - I was blown away by the clever choreography when the two twins fight, dance etc. Also subtle and funny use of computer-enhancing effects. In all a totally endearing film that I just fell in love with. br /

4 out of 5 stars A very nice film, badly marketed and often misjudged   May 3, 2004

I went into the cinema with friends and said: "It's a Farrelly Brothers film; you can guess the level of humour." There's Something About Mary I love, but let's face it -- the humour is quite crass, even if the movie does have some heart. So I expected another movie with jokes in bad taste, and lots of humour at the expense of conjoined twins. At least this is how the film was marketed. However, it couldn't be further from the truth. What has been marketed is quite different to what the film is about.pWhilst the film does have humour -- some moments hilariously funny -- this film is at heart a light drama; and this is certainly by no means a bad thing. When I expected low-IQ humour, what I got was just a really involving tale of two brothers who just happen to be conjoined. The chemistry between Damon and Kinnear is just perfect, and the relationship between the brothers (no doubt written from experience by the Farrelly Brothers) was wonderful.pFox's marketing treatment of the film is appalling. In the trailer, Matt Damon's character says: "We're not Siamese, we're American," and the trailer plays it like he is stupid. Whereas in fact, when watching the film, the context is very different -- he's reacting with indignation, and in defence of their conjoined nature. This is indicative of the entire film. Never is their conjoined-nature used for humour in a bad way.pThrow away what you've seen in the trailers, or what you think the film is about. It's well worth purchasing this movie that has its heart so very much in the right place -- a great antidote to so many Hollywood films that have the soul of a stone. I don't normally get sentimental with films; I'm the type of viewer that laughs when Jack dies at the end of Titanic. But I went away from Stuck On You knowing I'd seen a very special film indeed, so it's nice to see it finally on DVD. A commentary is good, but the extras are a bit sparse. Thumbs up though for a DTS soundtrack. Overall, highly recommended.

I think a lot of the previous reviews have analysed this film in more depth than I can understand and they've taken apart the structure of the film and diagnosed what has made previous films by the directors succesful and where this one has went wrong....pbut I just wanted to add, its funny! A good film to watch just to have a laugh. Nothing clever or deep about it. pJust a good film.
