5 out of 5 stars Vic's On The Case   June 2, 2008

Kathleen Turner plays no-nonsense femme fatale VI Warshawski, a private detective who lives in Chicago. She's tough and knows how to handle men, who often don't take her seriously, why she doesn't use her name - she refers to herself as VI. br / br /When she meets an interesting hockey player - Bernard 'Boom-Boom' Grafalk (Stephen Meadows) things get very complicated for Vic, as she has to look after his daughter - Kat, who's a handful. When Kat and Vic find out that Boom-Boom is dead, they form a tough private detective team and crack the mystery. br / br /This is a good movie - it's not groundbreaking but Kathleen Turner really does put out a good performance, plus Vic is a great character, a powerful woman with a soft side when needed, and girly characteristics (loves clothes and shoes). Angela Goethals was also great in this, as the cheeky yet lovable Kat, who really just wants the best for everyone. br / br /Even though this is a 15, I think it makes a great family movie, it's funny, and shows that when people work together they can conquer the worst moments. It's got some violence and sexual content, but they're not too bad, though wouldn't show it to anyone who's under 13. br / br /This is a great film and worth getting on DVD - though the extras are not that good, the price this is sold at makes it worth it's time.

This was knocked alot by the critics when it came out but it is actually a good film. Kathleen Turner does a good bit of acting in this movie as she is always more than capable of doing. It has a well put together script and very good acting overall. Turner plays the tough-talking private detective with real conviction and also shows what a great character actress she can be.

Based on a series of novels by American writer Sara Paretsky; Kathleen Turner takes the title role in this corny early 90s Detective `Thriller'. br / br /Turner; looking a little old, but still with the looks that made her the go-to glamour girl for 80s movie producers; acquits herself pretty well, but the film is so stereotypical and lacking in wit and imagination that there is little even she can do to salvage it. Other stalwarts such as Charles Durning give the film a little class but it is ultimately a lost cause; the story of a murdered baseball player and the subsequent fight to claim his daughter, who is the key to a fortune, plays out for 90 minutes...and that's it really; It's not hard to see why the planned movie franchise was scrapped after this was a commercial and critical flop. br / br /The film is accompanied by a typical bland and cheesy 80s synth soundtrack; whilst the big hair, shoulder pads and lipgloss all date the film and leave it stuck firmly in a late 80s/early 90s timewarp. br /
