Amazon.co.uk Review
The brainy, paranoid science fiction of writer Philip K Dick has inspired one visionary classic (IBlade Runner/I) and two above-average action movies (ITotal Recall/I and IMinority Report/I). IPaycheck/I aspires to follow in their footsteps: an engineer (Ben Affleck) routinely agrees to have his memory erased after every job so that he doesn't know what he's done. But after the biggest job of his life, he discovers that not only has he refused a 90 million-dollar paycheck, he's sent himself an envelope full of things he doesn't recognise--and he doesn't remember doing any of this. As he unravels the plot, he discovers he's also fallen in love (with Uma Thurman) and invented a dangerous device for his former boss (Aaron Eckhart). Affleck is bland, the script ruins a cunning idea and the direction--from the normally dynamic John Woo--plods along, aimless and bored. --IBret Fetzer/I

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   August 5, 2005

OK,where to begin....it's true that Ben Affleck is infamous for making both good and bad movies, but I can happily say that this is one of his good ones. The story centers around Micheal Jennings(Ben Affleck)who is a reverse engineer,(that is to say that he steals smaller companies products, makes them better, and then sells them to the bigger companies). After accepting a job from an old friend,he builds a machine which can see into the future(not as corny as it seems),and after he finds out how much trouble it will cause,he sends himself an envelope filled with common objects, just before he has his memory wiped as normal. The idea is that he must use the objects at certain points in order to make it back to where the machine is stored so that he can destroy it.Helping him is his girlfriend Uma Thurman and his friend Paul Giamatti. It is packed with twists and turns and the bike chase is especially good. The action is fantastic and while it is true that director John Woo does go overboard sometimes it is still a brilliant movie to watch alone or with friends. The only thing that I felt let it down was the fact that not enough enphasis was put on the items but this is not a huge problem. In all a great movie.

John Woo usually provides great action. And Paycheck is not an exception. Ben Affleck playes reverse engineer Michael Jennings that is offered one big job for a $ 90,000,000 paycheck. Th catch is that he will have to give up 3 years of his life and then have them erased. Everything seems fine until he wakes up after 3 years slowly realising that something has gone terribly wrong and he is now chased by both the government as well as the company who hired him. Affleck is suitably complimented by Uma Thurman and his arch rival played by Aaron Eckhart.pI never saw this film in the cinama and was very excited to get a hold of this DVD a few weeks before the UK and US release. This film is not to be missed!

This movie is amazing. I'm really not normally into this kind of film, and i hated the 'Bourne' series. This film was edge-of-the-seat excitment. I have to agree with other reviews that the movie was slightly too long, but if you want to see a gripping action adventure movie, that keeps you guessing, get Paycheck. br / br /seriously, it's worth it.

This is probably one of the best DVD's I've ever seen. A great action film about a man seeing into the futre, however after he has seen into the futre his memory is wiped out so he does not understand when he is given an envelope with a few odd objects in. Later on however, he realises that he himself put the objects in the envelope, when he saw into the futre to help him in difficult and sometimes life-threatening situations. The ending is very good,as is the rest of the film and I would DEFINITLY recommend this to all people who age between 10- adult.
