5 out of 5 stars Great easy going chick flick   September 9, 2007

Chasing Liberty is unoriginal in it's plot, but is a great easy going film where you can enjoy european scenery, romance and of course looking at the absolutely gorgeous Matthew Goode. br / br /Mandy Moore is likeable in her performance as Anna Foster (the president's daughter), but the star of the film has to be the smooth and very charming secret service agent Ben Calder (Matthew Goode)who makes Chasing Liberty a must see. br / br /Not a complex plot but definitely well worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyable enough to watch several times   October 12, 2008

I like this film better with Matthew Goode British; s constrast mindset and culture. I watched the second time to see the different layers of acting skills of Mr. Goode subdued yet rather intricate feeling appeared on his facial expression. Mandy Moore is not as good as his acting but her spoiled role is acted straight out, not bland as in the Katie Homes' "First Daughter". br /I can also appreciate the sub-plot of the comical and romantic between the 2 agents following her around scenery Europe and the amazing actual crowd in Berlin ( a real event that happenned to take place then). Quite a handful things to watch besides the main 2 leads so the movie is not boring at any moment!

5 out of 5 stars One of my favourite romantic-comedies   August 20, 2008
A. Lalor (Ireland)
Finding a good romantic-comedy these days can be somewhat of a challenge despite the huge variety available. They tend to either be too romantic at the expense of the comedy, too humorous at the expense of the romance, too cheesy or worse than anything falling into the slap-stick genre. Thankfully this is not the case with Chasing Liberty, a cute, lovable romantic comdy starring Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode. br / br /Okay the story is far from original. Mandy Moore is the daughter of the President of America, which means she cannot lead a normal life doing the things that other teenagers can do like going on dates without an army of security guards in her mist. Alas she runs away to find adventure befriending Matthew Goode in the process, how ever what she doesn't know is that Matthew has a few secrets, the main one being that he is one of her father's secret service assigned to protect her. Yes it's a tad predictable. It's easy to see where the story is going but what saves this story from falling into the scrap heap is the clever script that manages to combine witty one-liners with romantic quips. br / br /What also sets this movie above other romantic-comedies most notably the latest 'First Daughter' is that the two leads are very likable. Personally I've always been a fan of Mandy Moore and she doesn't fail to disappoint in this movie as she plays the cute, giddy, spontaneous girl desperately searching for freedom. As the male lead Matthew Goode provides a good balance to Moore's lively personality being more reserved and hesitant but aboveall adorable as he struggles to contain his growing feelings for his boss's daughter. Obviously it helps that he's drop dead gorgeous and has an accent to die for. Together the two have a nice little chemistry going on that will have you grinning in the chair. br / br /What also works well with this movie is that unlike so many romantic-comedies money has clearly been invested into this one as can be seen from the diverse locations. With filming locations in Washington, Berlin, Venice, London, Austria and Plague it is clear that an effort has been made to create a memorable and visually stunning movie, that if it does nothing else it will at least entice you to do some long-put-off travelling. br / br /To conclude I'd highly recommend this movie for a good girly night or some mother-daughter time or even a date movie because believe me there are jokes enough to keep the male mind functioning.

4 out of 5 stars a joy to watch   February 28, 2005

A romantic comedy with plenty of both and a familiar topic: the President's daughter of America. Having been cooped up in the White House for too long and followed around incessantly by bodyguards, Anna yearns for the notorious American dream more than anyone else, and that's freedom. The liberty to go someplace without being recognised and asked for autographs and the liberty to have a first date which isn't ruined by bodyguards pouncing on your date's friend because he dared to reach into his pocket. Protesting to her father has come to no avail, thus she takes matters into her own hands and runs off during a presidential visit to Prague. With a new-found travelling companion, who is of course a dashing young fellow, Anna ventures from Prague to Venice to Berlin, with bodyguards hopelessly trying to keep up. The chase is on, but who will get caught unawares? An amiable, feel-good movie that is good for what it is, but has little scope for much else.
