Adams (London United Kingdom) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful terrific performance from Dennis Hopper, this tackles the taboo subject of sex and love amongst middle aged folk. The fact he has an affair with a teenage girl may seem to be an exploitive male fantasy, but the Hopper character is a decent man who feels his life slipping away from him and he takes the chance to have a dangerous adventure despite the potentially disasterous consequences, not least to his reputation. The rebellious teenager is believable, as is his long-term relationship with a fellow teacher, played beautifully by Amy Irving. Presumably its the difficult subject matter which caused this film to bomb, but it deals with the issues very well, plus all the characters are sypathetically played. Interesting and sad that viewers make more fuss about seeing the middle aged Hopper and Irving in the nude than they do about the wrecklessness of him having sex with a teenage pupil.
