5 out of 5 stars Full of laughter and tears   August 27, 2005

What an amazing film! It blew me away. I laughed out loud for more than half the film, and cried my way through a fair chunk too. It's a classic "buddy" movie - watching the growing friendship and mutual respect for each other between two young men - they just happen to be in wheelchairs, as they fight against authority and being pigeon-holed. Fantastic performances, fantastic film.

5 out of 5 stars An Appeaing Story of the indomitable Human Spirit   February 13, 2006

How do you get the most out of life when you can only move one finger? This is a heart warming story of how two quadriplegic friends overcome the limitations of their disabilities and get the most out of life. An unsentimental look at the problems faced by those who are dependant on others for every day things that most of us take for granted, like feeding, washing and getting in and out of bed, it made me both laugh out loud and cry. This emotional subject is approached with plenty of humour, but without trivialising a serious subject or glossing over the problems.

5 out of 5 stars Best film i've seen in a long time!   July 9, 2005

As a worker in care I wanted to see if this film really brought out any of the frustrations people with disabilities face on a daily basis. I wasn't disappointed! All through the film I couldn't tell if it was actors or real disabled people as it was so good. It made me laugh, cry, get angry with them and I could empathise with the characters. It showed how people can be treated in a care home but not all disabled people want to be 'looked after'. The characters were very realistic and extremely well researched. We need more good films like this!!!

pJames McAvoy captures the zest for life and extreme frustration. The film gives a great insight into disability and is accurately portrayed. It does not go for the sympathy vote, but shows two steely individuals fighting for their rights. It is a film about triumph, but also the inevitability of early death.pIt is both extremely funny and deeply sad. The difficulties in making relationships is moving and touched my heartstrings.p pI would recommend this film to everybody, to open their eyes to the fact that they should look beyond the wheelchairs and search for the person in their encounters with the diasabled.

Some people see to think this was unrealistic, badly acted and boring on the pure basis that the actors were not actually disabled.pWell, in my opinion they did a really good job and it seems a lot of other people think so too. pIt#x27;s a heart wrencher and you#x27;ll know it from the beginning and that#x27;s what makes it such a powerful movie that you#x27;ll know how inevitable the ending is and it draws a kind of grief from you.pIt is about the dynamic friendship of two guys who are very much the opposite. There are strong characters in this movie who make it feel very real to the audiance. pFor anyone who like gritty British movies like Billy Elliot and East is East which feel real and are about things which happen and probably would happen, then this movie is for you. Great for a night in wrapped up in a blanket and a cup of tea and buscuits.
